As Sablestone led the weanlings into the Void, Riverglade got a sinking feeling in her stomach, the kind where you feel like something bad was about to happen in a seemingly harmless situation. She pushed it away and didn't think any more about it. They stopped just outside of the Void.
"Stay here," Sablestone told them. "I'm going to make sure it's safe"
"I'm sure it's fine," Ashwind protested.
"No. Plains Herd patrols were spotted close to our border a few days ago, and I have to make sure it's safe. Don't cross the border until I say so." Then the stallion left.
Once Sablestone was out of earshot, the foals started devising a plan. They debated who would go to spy on him.
"I'll go," Riverglade volunteered. "I'm the best suited for it.
"And why is that?" asked a colt named Thunderhoof.
"I'm the best at sneaking around, without anyone noticing. Besides, Ashwind is as clumsy as a newborn foal,"
"I beg to differ." Riverglade said with a smirk.
"Anyway, Ashwind is extremely clumsy, Nightshade will forget what he's doing and walk right in front of Sablestone, and you, no doubt, with walk in front of him on purpose. And Lightbreeze and Sunfeather won't want to do it" She continued. "So it has to be me"
" She's got a point, Thunderhoof." Ashwind nickered, amused.
"Ok fine, but what if she gets caught, how will we make it not look suspicious?" He asked.
"Easy." Riverglade said. "We all go into the Void, and you guys stay at the very edge of it, while I go spy. If we get caught, I'll say that we say a mountain lion in the distance, and we moved before it could see us, and that I went to go find him, while you guys kept a lookout. BOOM. Problem solved."
"That does seem like a good plan," Sunfeather said. The shy dun filly was arguably the most intelligent of the weanling, and could easily find loopholes in plans. SO when she said it seemed like a good plan, she meant it.
Riverglade arched her neck proudly. "Thanks"
"Ok, Let's go." Said Sunfeather's twin brother, Nightshade. "How about we go to that big tree over there?" he pointed with his wing. "I saw Sablestone head east, towards that big clump of trees."
"I'll go now." Riverglade said.
"I'm going with you," Lightbreeze announced.
"Really?" Riverglade asked her best friend, surprised.
"Yes, I'm worried you'll do something stupid without me there," She said.
"If we've got everything figured out, then you two should go now, before Sablestone comes back." Ashwind said.
"Ok, wish us luck," Riverglade said. The other foals wished them luck, then agreed to meet at the tree.
