"Riverglade! Wait up!" Lightbreeze cried to her friend.
"You hurry up!" Riverglade replied. She thought for she she had seen a herd of land horses in the Void.
"Where are we going?" Lightbreeze asked.
" The Void! Or at least the very edge of it!"
"I think I saw a herd of horses by there!" Riverglade said.
Lightbreeze stopped in her tracks. "Riverglade, do you REALLY think that's a good idea?" She asked her friend. " Didn't Brightcloud specifically say that foals aren't allowed in the Void without an adult? Could't we have just asked someone to come with us?" They resumed their trek, Lightbreeze reluctantly following Riverglade.
"Yeah, but where's the fun in that? We'll be fine.Besides, we're only going to the edge of Canyon Herd's territory" She replied. Suddenly Lightbreeze stopped again, staring at the sky. Riverglade sighed, clearly exasperated. "What now?" she asked.
Plains Herd patrols" Lightbreeze said with a tremble in her voice. "We have to go. Now." The fillies started galloping back to the safety of the herd, not wanting to fly and risk the patrol seeing them. They were nearly exhausted by the time they got back. Riverglade made a direct beeline towards her mother.
"Mama!" She said. "Lightbreeze and I saw Plains herd patrols near the border when we were exploring near the Void!" Brightcloud was relieved her filly was safe, but also shocked at the news. Patrols normally stayed either in their territory, or at the edge of the Void closest to the herd's territory. So it was very unusual and suspicious to see a foreign patrol so close to Canyon Herd's lands.
"What?" Brightcloud said. "Riverglade, are you sure? It wasn't one of our own patrols?"
" Yes, I am sure it was a Plains Herd patrol" Riverglade said.
" All, right then. I have to go tell this to your father and Flamefire about this. Stay with Lightbreeze and Sunflower." Flamefire was Canyon Herd's top captain, and Lightbreeze's sire.
Brightcloud nuzzled her filly good-bye, and then took off in search of the stallions
