Riverglade and Lightbreeze flew low, not wanting Sablestone to see them. Then they heard voices behind a large clump of trees. It was Sablestone and a group of foreign pegasi! The two fillies flew down and went as close to the clearing as they dared, disguised by trees. They eavesdropped on their conversation, while watching through peepholes.
"What?! You want to abandon your mission after nearly a whole year of preparation for this moment?! Hawkwing will kill you if you don't go through with it!" Sputtered a perlino stallion with dark purple feathers.
"Cloudfire, there is just something about this mare," Riverglade heard Sablestone say. "I can't leave. And I never said I was going to abandon the mission, I just said I wasn't going back to Plains Herd."
The perlino stallion, Cloudfire, sighed. "All right, if you have to. But Hawkwing won't be happy about losing one of his best warriors to the enemy." He said.
"I know," Sablestone responded.
Riverglade and Lightbreeze looked at each other, both equally wide-eyed and confused. What does this mean? Is Sablestone a fake? Both of their mothers were heavily pregnant when he joined Canyon Herd, and they had grown up with him being trusted by everyone.
Riverglade's thoughts were interrupted by another member of the foreign team. A small, red dun mare with coral feathers was speaking. "Enough talking already," She said impatiently. "Can we get on with the mission?"
"In a minute, Aspenglade," Cloudfire said irritably. "We need to go over our plan, first." Then the stallion turned to Sablestone. "Where are the fillies?" He asked.
"They're with the other weanlings, at the edge of the Void," The young stallion answered, not noticing them yet.
Cloudfire nodded, and faced his team. "You know the drill. Get in, get it done, get out. Only take the blue roan and palomino fillies. Got it?" he was answered by 7 nods. "Good. Let's move out."
The fillies were shocked. They were going to get captured if they didn't leave soon! Riverglade made eye contact with Lightbreeze. She nodded, understanding what Riverglade was thinking. They were just about to turn around and run away, when the team exited from behind the bush and saw them.
