    Nightwing?

    in MISUNDERSTOOD VILLAINS

I think Nightwing became evil because of what happened to Hollyblaze.

In Nightwing's journey, it's said (well, written) that they were looking at baby crocodiles together (well, Hollyblaze) when the mother comes back. Hollyblaze and Nightflame flee, on hoof because they both know that Nightflame can't fly yet. However, Nightflame suddenly relizes thag he is no longer running beside Hollyblaze. Then he hears screams and shouts. He suddenly sees his best friend, fighting the evil, power-obsessed overstallion, Moonwing. "Nightflame!" Hollyblaze screams. "Help me!" Though Nightflame knew she didn't mean to help her escape; Hollyblaze meant for him to help her fight.

But instead, he whipped around and jumped into a bush to hide.

"Nightflame!" Hollyblaze whinnied, before Nightflame heard a sickening crack.

And then he realized that his friend was no longer with him.

    (COPYRIGHT JLA)

Maybe it was out of pure grief did he become evil. Pure grief that he chose himself over his best friend, that he made the wrong choice? There were stories passed through his herd that he was the reason she was killed. Maybe he just couldn't take it, and that"/ also the reason why he fled Anok when he first recieved his power, because after hearing all about it from his herd, he couldn't believe that he caused her downfall. So he fled to deal with his grief, and when he came back, he looked at his herd with hatred and disgust, and probably thought that they were wrong. No, definitely.

So, just like every other herd at the time, he roared his silver fire on them.

apart from the first one, the one that triggered his evilness. his fight or flight instinct kicked in; it wasn't his fault he thought of himself first. we can't al be brave, especially when faced with your dangerously reckless best friend fighting an over stallion with three, four captains with him. it was his fault he abandoned his sanity, though. he had a lot of oppurtinities (can never spell that word right) to redeem himself and let the others help him, but nAH never mind.

Wow. Echo, I completely agree with your point of view on this. Right before she died, Hollyblaze called Nightwing a coward, and crack all of his hopes, dreams, and joy died with his best friend.

I know think that the way Nightwing looked at his herd and pegasi in general helped him become evil. Moonwing was power hungry, and modtly, before Star came, that was all Anok was. It was a dog eat dog world back then, kill or be killed. Everyone knew that if you had power, you had everything, and power consumes the heart and mind. Nightwing probably saw all the Pegasi as more clones of Moonwing; all they wanted was power. He saw them all the same: power-hungry.

The sad thing about that is, in some countries, this is true.

It's his fault he didn't fight in the battle, but he regretted his decision. That caused him to go all rage mode, like Echomoon said.

Yeah. I mean, yes he wanted a family but, he should have thought of that before he left his BEST FRIEND'S side to a firce battle. She died because he was a coward, just like Hollyblaze had said.

That's a good theory, Riverstar. Laos in Windborn, its said that Nightwing had always wanted a family, but so badly that he would kill for it, and Star had already accepted that he may never be able to.

Lol Dragon. That's true Echomoon, but I think he's pure evil because in Windborn I'm pretty sure Star said that he could heal Nightwing and Nightwing could leave the past behind and join Star instead of conquering him. But, Nightwing refused and continued to battle Star and almost end up killing him. I believe Nightwing is evil because Star showed him mercy and tried to become allies, but Nightwing refused

Yeah, villains always have some sort of heartbreaking backstory (with exception of Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz)

The right thing for him to do was forgive his herd... But his past was so sad
