He glanced wearily at the branch in Callum’s hand, but nodded once before turning to face the steeds before him. He opened his wings and arched his neck. “Alright, listen up!” He barked and waited until all eyes were on him and all ears were swiveled in his direction. “We’re splitting up into groups.” His eyes scanned the various steeds in the squad: different heights, different sized wings, different skills. “Springtail, Swiftbranch, Pebblefrost, Stormwood, and Clayhoof,” These five had the largest wings of the group and were remarkable fliers. “You’re our eyes in the sky. Hover a safe distance over the camp and alert us if anybody moves or changes. Don’t get too close; don’t reveal yourself unless absolutely necessary.” The stallions huddled into their assigned group before snorting in understanding.
Rayfire moved on to the stallions that would join Callum. Those steeds needed to be smaller in stature to keep a low profile, mature and obedient enough to follow Callum’s orders without asking questions, and… young? Perhaps a younger group closer to Callum’s age would allow them to work better together?
Rayfire sighed before shifting his eyes to the steeds he had in mind. “Foxglen, Pinegrass, Mapleleaf, and Buckweed. (I tried to keep their names short and easy to remember 😭 lemme know if I need to change them or if something else might be easier!!) Come forward.” He held eye contact with each steed as they separated from the rest of the battalion and stood side by side in front of Rayfire. He recognized each stallion: he had trained them, and a sliver of uncertainty sprouted in his gut about handing over 4 skillful and eager-to-please battle steeds to a stranger. But, he had to trust that Callum’s plan would work.
Rayfire looked at the young troops again: they each looked slightly confused, but prepared nonetheless. “You four are with Callum. Respect him and watch each other’s backs.” And he motioned for the four steeds to join the centaur.
“The rest of you are with me on ground security. Spread out from here to the creek on both sides. Defending the herd is our priority. Nothing leaves these woods but us. Understood?”
“Sir!”
“Good. Get into position.” He dismissed them with a harsh flick of his tail. The five air coverage steeds silently lifted off and flew straight up towards the cloud layer. The security team divided themselves and spread out into the woods. And the four young under-stallions gathered around Callum, quickly introducing themselves. Everyone buzzed with energy and enthusiasm, wings rattled, hooves stamped, and eyes beamed.
(SORRY THIS ONE’S REALLY LONG 😭)
(oooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO BHEARITTTTTT)
Kavani:
She smiled softly as Bhearit eagerly chugged the water down. She was glad she was able to help him, even if he didn’t ask, even if was as simple as giving him lukewarm, old water from a used canteen. A used canteen.
She didn’t allow herself to think too hard on that. Moving on, she shrugged nonchalantly. “You’re welcome, but it wasn’t anything special. Just some water.” Kavani lifted her gaze to meet his, but his eyes were on something else. Before she could place what it was, he looked back up at her, suddenly awkward with flushed cheeks. It wasn’t the first time Bhearit had looked at her that way. What did it mean? What had he been glancing at? Why did her face suddenly feel so warm?
She bit her tongue and shifted her weight: she felt foolish.
Kavani ignored the heat and focused on the conversation they were having, and Bhearit’s offer that he was still insisting upon.
Kavani looked around at her home, her and Kollin’s simple little tent. Inside was covered in ash and ransacked and no place to sleep. Outside was messy and dirty clothes and blankets still littered the ground. Bhearit was right: it did look like a tornado came through. Besides, evening was quickly approaching and there was no way she’d be able to make food and clean up properly in time for a comfortable night’s rest. “Okay, alright,” Her voice was stiff and hesitant as she looked back at Bhearit, “If the offer still stands… your place would be… great. And very helpful.” Kavani exhaled deeply, as if that was the most challenging thing she’s ever agreed to.
“Thank you, Bhearit. I don’t know what I did to deserve your kindness, but… I really appreciate it.” She dared to look at him again, and found herself smiling.
(Heeheheheeheeeeee)
@AspidistrabloomHeyyy!!!! I searched you up on Discord and nothing showed up? Is your username the same?)
(Hey @Sunlight!!! Could you leave me a re-comment of your last one with Topaz? For some reason, I can’t find it XDD)
He rolled his shoulders back, scrounging in his mind for some kind of plan that was solid. Despite the ever amounting evidence of intruders, one could not truly tell how many there were. It was best not to risk the assumption of a party less than three.
Callum walked over to a large oak and reared up, breaking one of the limbs off with the help of his hooves and weight. He returned to the group with a branch as long as his arm.
“You know your men- steeds- better than I, Captain. Section groups off for the tasks of securing this area and keeping an eye out from the air for any unwanted visitors that happened to leave the forest, especially toward the herd. I need four with me to investigate what sort of intruders we have at hand. Aye?” He began tearing off excess twigs off his new weapon. Better than nothing. (I forgot how many pegasi came with Callum. Was it 20?)
(Hahaha Kavani would hate to “intrude” into his home and private life when she was practically dragged into it without her permission 😭)
Bhearit:
He swallowed dryly and couldn’t help but eagerly take the canteen without question. “No, no, this is just fine.” He gulped down the water, ignoring the lukewarmness of it. “Thank you,” Bhearit gasped and then chuckled breathlessly. Already his mind was clearing more.
“But really,” he continued, “the offer still stands. I know we’re all exhausted, especially you. You both can take some of your things back to my place so that at least you’ll have somewhere to go to for rest instead of this- uh-“ Bhearit took a deep breath- “tornado disaster.”
He tucked the sheet underneath his arm and smiled at Kavani. “Thank you for the water. I didn’t even say anything.” He couldn’t help but study her face for a moment as she began to respond. His gaze, which had been primarily set on her face over all as he listened to her, wandered away and lingered just for a split second on her lips before returning to her eyes for conversation’s sake. They were such a spring green. Bhearit swallowed and lashed his flanks with his tail.
(Just a little ✨spice✨. Also SO sorry for my shorter comments!!! I didn’t want to add more and overwhelm you with more things to respond to with your characters DX. Thanks so much for being so PATIENT!)
As they followed behind the centaur, he allowed his mind to wander. He couldn’t shake Callum’s warning from his thoughts. Centaurs are capable of creating devices that can take you down mid-flight. He frowned and began to roll his wings in a circle, the muscles in his shoulders stretching and flexing. What sort of.. device… could ground a gifted flier, and fully grown Pegasus? Do those responsible for all this chaos have such devices? Was Callum walking them into a trap?
The harsh scent of smoke was only growing stronger and it forced him from his thoughts. As his focused shifted, he realized a new, potent smell was coming from the deep wood. Rayfire couldn’t quite place it: he had never smelled anything like it before. The other Pegasi behind Callum immediately smelled it too, and almost in unison, they lifted their heads upward to get a better sense of what it was. Rayfire inhaled deeply before grunting and wagging his head back and forth. It was rancid; he could practically taste it. The other Pegasi seemed to come to the same conclusion as sounds of stifled disgust echoed between stallions. (Yeaaahhhhh I doubt all the Pegasi of Sun herd will react to the smell of cooking meat as politely and calmly as Fawnroot 😬)
Rayfire gritted his teeth and focused on what Callum was doing instead of on the horrid smell that seemed to burn his insides.
Callum surveyed the area, tracking the traces in the scuffed dirt, and pointed in the direction of the presumed intruders. Rayfire peered across the creek and frowned. “They’re close.” Much too close to Sun herd for comfort. How did the patrols miss them? Unless… these intruders have only been in the territory a few hours and snuck in between shifts.
“Do you have a plan?” He asked stiffly, sending a glance behind him at the alert, battle ready steeds who stared at Callum with loyal, expectant gazes.
(Yeah I think Kavani and Kollin did get a snack but I don’t think they’d eaten it yet! Or if they did, it wasn’t very filling, as you said)
Kavani:
She blinked at Bhearit as he folded the sheet, and nonchalantly offered his own home as a place to stay for the night since her own place was practically destroyed. She’d hate to intrude in Bhearit’s home and private life. Kollin would have a blast, but Kavani didn’t think she’d be able to sleep tonight, no matter who’s home she was in.
Kavani realized that Bhearit had asked her another question and was most likely waiting for a response. “Ah…”
She didn’t like the idea of Bhearit and Kollin doing all the hard work outside while she tended to the food. But, she was hungry, and she knew Kollin was hungry, so was there a better option?
“Sure, whatever. I can start to make food. I need to put away the groceries I got today anyway.”
Kavani looked back at Bhearit, and studied him for a long moment. Really studied him: his shoulders were set and his face was tight and determined. He scanned the yard, and as they talked, she realized he was folding any sheets or blankets that he came across. But despite the work, she didn’t miss the deep tiredness in his eyes. Like he was ready to collapse and sleep right now, but a secret source was keeping him going.
“I’ll be right back.” She said suddenly and turned away quickly. Her hooves moved automatically, she opened the tent, and the air immediately sucked out of her lungs. The tent was almost as messy as the yard. As if in her desperation to find her husbands lost wedding band, Kavani’s dam threw all the larger, bulky materials and items outside and dumped out all remaining possessions inside. Soot and ash from the fire pit streaked across the floor, along with utensils, bowls, rags, pens, paper, and any other household items. Their sleeping mats were dirty and ragged, and her mother’s hoof prints were everywhere. Kavani cringed and sighed, rubbing her aching shoulder absentmindedly.
“Bhearit first. Just start with Bhearit.” She said aloud and began digging through the mess to find a canteen. She usually kept them in her personal chest with her clothes since she always brought one to training, but that chest had been emptied and her clothes were most likely thrown outside with all others.
Eventually she found it laying in a wad under a couple upside down books. Thankfully, her mother had merely tossed the canteen aside and hadn’t poured out the water inside.
Stepping over Kollin’s mat that had been dragged towards the entrance, she exited the tent and headed back towards Bhearit.
“Here,” she said with a tight voice when she reached him, and held out the canteen. “You said you were thirsty? Water’s probably not cold, but… I hope it’s alright.”
(COMING BACK FROM THE DEAD WITH TWO NOVELS FOR Y’ALL TO READ MUAHAHAHA)
(AAAAAAA HELLO ALL!!! Happy (late) Easter!! COLLEGE HAS BEEN CRAZYYYYY!!!! How have you been?! Hopefully I’ll be able to find/make time to role-play more often! Sorry guys 😩😭 also, Aspi!! I searched you up on Discord and nothing showed up? Is your username the same?)
(Hey Sunlight!!! Could you leave me a re-comment of your last one with Topaz? For some reason, I can’t find it XDD)
(Again, I’m so super sorry for my absence! I wish I could say I’ll be on more consistently in the future, but my school schedule is pretty booked for a while 😭😩 I’ve truly missed you all so hopefully I can get back into it!)
River DONT worry about the constistentness of your responses!! Your school- and life in general for that matter- is far more important than this RP. This goes for EVERYBODY! I personally can say that I am extremelyyyy inconsistent and most of the time it has been my fault bcus I don’t always feel like RPing. There, I said it 😭😭😂. Anyways, WB RIVER XDD)
That was not the smoke belonging to his own fire a few hours before. He had put it out. This only added to the evidence that he was piecing together, affirming his hypothesis more. Will they ever catch a break?
He kept a steady walk toward the tree line, keeping his gaze alert and searching for any more signs of foreign presence. Once about ten feet or so among the trees, he stopped. Callum swiveled his ears, filtering out the soft snorts and occasional flutter of feathers from the steeds behind him. Other than that and the slight breeze that rustled the leaves above, nothing out of the ordinary. Only what seemed to be missing were the birds.
Callum inhaled, silently wishing for a more attuned sense of smell like the creatures he was leading. Then for a moment, the breeze kicked up, carrying a familiar and delicious smell with it. He couldn’t quite put his finger on it, but it was definitely some sort of meat being cooked.
Callum gestured for the others to slowly follow him as he began to move forward silently. He glanced up at the trees, searching for any more signs of that pillar of smoke. Nothing.
He crept to area where he, Fawnroot, and Rimecrest had been earlier that morning. His fire was covered with dirt, and no smoke emitted. One thing that was missing was his meal he had left behind. Along with the stick too, apparently. He held up his hand and bent down, looking closer at the earth.
The dirt was scuffed up, like someone had hastily attempted to cover their tracks before leaving. Callum straightened and gazed in the direction of the creek where Rimecrest had presumably found those drugged berries.
He turned toward the others. “Someone’s been here,” he murmured. “Attempted to cover their hoof prints before running off.” Callum gestured at the scattered earth and clumps of upturned grass. “In that direction-“ he pointed toward the creek- “is where Rimecrest had likely found the berries. And nearby are those accountable for it. (I’ma stop here before I go too long)
(She and Kollin had a snack Bhearit paid for right? Prbly not filling enough tho!)
Bhearit:
“Not too hungry, but I am a little thirsty,” he replied and tucked the first half of the sheet under his chin so that he could fold it. “If you need a place to stay, mine is open.” Bhearit glanced at Kollin and then at Kavani. The mare just looked exhausted, her cheeks and nose still having a shade of pink from crying. Kollin appeared a little better though since he was focused on gather all his things at the moment.
“Well, probably not any more neat at the moment if I’m honest,” Bhearit added with a chuckle and folded the sheet over his arms. He held it for awhile, looking around. He could feel the same sort of pit in his stomach seeing the mess around him as he did whenever he took a step back to see the mess at his own place. Sometimes it was best to focus in on each individual problem and take care of them one at a time rather than taking them in all at once. Otherwise it would always lead to stress and anxiety.
In the back of his mind, Bhearit decided to take care of any and all sheets, then he would join in with anything cloth wise, and so on. Feeling a bit more determined, he placed the folded sheet on the inside of the opened lid of the trunk and then made his way over to blanket to fold it too.
“What do you want to do about food? Do you want to make something real quick while Kollin and I clean up?” Bhearit asked.
Cole:
He whistled slightly through his teeth and grinned at Lakha. “Hurt still?” he teased, taking a couple steps forward. “Maybe not since you’re probably used to getting beat up so much, huh?”
He wasn’t aiming to be in offense; he’d much rather be in defense, but if it was necessary, he would do it. All Cole needed was his opponent to get a little riled up and maybe even make a dumb mistake or two.
“They’re getting bored,” he said with a head gesture toward the audience as though it were Lakha’s fault.
Sultaan:
He glanced at Smurthi and turned to follow her as she made her leave from the smithery. He wished to ask where they were going now, although it was likely back to the office. But he had no desire to write anything like that down. He was to soon find out anyway.
Sultaan couldn’t wait to be done; already he was beginning to miss the sweet presence of Reba.
Oh yeah, character development!! Hehehe)
Tyn Asti:
He gazed at the foreign mare; he noticed the way she tensed, her eyes widening ever so slightly, and her thick accent rising a little in agitation.
“There is, but it is a much more advanced class. Harder,” he explained flatly but patiently. “There are things in the children's class that you must learn before you move on. You would be crushed in the adult class. There might be others your age who will be in the children’s class, who knows? The important thing is learning how to get along well in this new society you’re in. The adults' doesn’t help so much with that. That is, it does, but it only adds to what one has learned in the younger class.”
Tyn tapped a leather-bound folder on his desk and opened it. “Tomorrow morning- oh, I’m sorry. What would you like to do then, Miss Reba?”
(Quick question, well two actually. Firstly, are Carmela and Topaz still cousins? Secondly, this question is one I've wondered for a bit, is it a good idea for others to read the parts where other characters interact with each other if the characters aren't interacting with your characters? Like, should I read the stuff where I'm not involved or is it not important? Lol idk if that made ANY sense, but if you managed to translate it and have an answer, thanks! XD)
@Sunlight (Yes, Carmela is Topaz’s cousin. Romie (Carmela’s sister and my character) is as well.
As for the other question, I think it depends! If you want Topaz to become involved in a different character’s plotline, it would be a good idea to read that part. Reading all of the parts could give you a better sense of the world of the role play and appreciate the stories and characters, but it is all up to you.)
The other troops nodded and a few obediently replied, “Yessir.” Rayfire huffed a breath; he seemed to be the only one particularly upset about being grounded. But, he could adapt. Even if they weren’t flying, he kept his wings open, his feathers unfurled, and he noticed many of the other steeds doing the same.
Rayfire walked a few feet away from Callum, clearly allowing him to take the lead but close enough to remain in earshot. This allowed him to immediately notice Callum’s moment of hesitation and followed the centaur’s gaze. His eyes widened and he snorted as the harsh smell of smoke burned his nostrils. The captain set his jaw and pinned his ears as the other Pegasi troops noticed the smoke, too. Stifled coughs and the sound of ruffling wings echoed from the group, but no one questioned, per their training. Rayfire glanced at Callum before sweeping his gaze back to the herd.
Many steeds were filtering into the meadow, lead by captains or brave under-stallions. It was only a matter of time before the smoke caught the herds attention, but he had faith in Robinfire and the other captains to handle the situation.
Rayfire straightened and stared into the trees. The air grew tense and thick as the group followed their captain towards the ominous smoke pillar.
Fawnroot:
“Be calm, brothers. This is only temporary. Listen to your captains and stay close to the mares.” She spoke softly to a group of nervous stallions who flared their wings in response, then turned and flew towards an elderly mare. “There’s room in the medicine mare den if you need rest.” Turned and flew to a skinny mare with two twin foals hovering over her flank. “There’s calming roots right outside my den should you need it.” Turned and flew to a few straggling newborns and nudged their shoulders towards the center of the meadow, “Come, little ones. Find your dams.” Turned and flew to a large captain who just landed. “Report to Robinfire; he will give you a job to do.”
Fawnroot made her rounds through the herd, making sure every steed knew they were safe and that everything was under control. Even though, secretly, she felt like everything was coming undone at the seams. But, she couldn’t say that. Couldn’t let her herd see that.
She spun in a slow circle, offering reassuring nickers and exchanging breath with any steed who drew close.
How she wished Callum was here; his steadiness always seemed to make everything easier. But, he wasn’t, so she would have to face this alone. Which is fine… she’s faced challenging times alone before, and she can do it again. For her herd. For him.
(HAHAHA in that case, I feel guilty about the absolute novels I make you read and respond to 😭😭)
(But seriously though, UGH BHEARIT! STOPPPP)
Kavani:
Bhearit’s kind voice and charming accent (HA) interrupted her train of thought. She blinked for a moment before looking up at Bhearit, but he was solely concerned about a sheet and kept his eyes down. Kavani sighed, “No, no, I don’t mind. You are welcome to stay. I just…” Don’t want to hurt you? Don’t want to burden you? Don’t want to involve you with my messed up life?
Are all the things she wanted to say. All the things she should admit. But, there was no way she could: she wasn’t that courageous. Kavani swallowed and frowned before turning away and finding one of her jackets on the ground. There was a large tear on the sleeve by the cuff, but she hardly noticed it. “I just don’t want you go hungry. You haven’t eaten any lunch yet.” She replied finally as she draped the jacket over her withers, ignoring the fact that neither her nor Kollin have eaten either. Her mother’s little destruction-of-property escapade interrupted any meal plans they had made.
“If you get hungry, let me know. I’d be happy to make you something; it’s the least I can do for your help.”
He met Amos’ gaze a moment but did not return any acknowledgement of his own. He then looked at Smurthi, waiting for her to speak or to leave as well.
Cole:
He risked a glance to find Avery amongst the crowd. She was speaking to Govind at the moment. What he wouldn’t give just to end the match.
Cole looked back at Lakha and chewed the inside of his lip, trying to think of something to do other than attack. His abdomen ached as he stood still. Cole took at step forward and then began to pace back and forth. The look on his opponent’s face appeared as though he were trying with much difficulty to hold himself back.
“I was the last to act,” he said a little tauntingly. “Are you just gonna sit there like a duck or what?”
Callum:
His first urge to reply in sarcasm caught him by surprise. That would not be received well at all by this stallion. “Aye,” was all Callum said.
He could sense the unease and growing frustration of the pegasi as they made their way toward the trees. They could just as easily fly; in fact, it was probably more natural for them. But if there were centaurs in the forest, that was last thing they should do.
“Centaurs are capable of of creating devices that can take you down mid-flight,” Callum bellowed and looked back at his troop, including Rayfire. “I’m not unaware of your discomfort and unfamiliarity with travel by earth, however, it would aid you greatly when dealing with grounded beings. Not all of them are against you, but not all are for you either.”
Callum paused a moment suddenly, staring hard into the trees. He shaded his eyes. A dark wisp of smoke curled up through the treetops.
(YOU BE RIGHT MI AMIGO or amiga or whatever XD)
Bhearit:
“Hey Kollin, why don’t you find all your things and put them in that spot right there?Like a treasure hunt,” he suggested and gestured toward a fairly good sized rock next to a pile of clothes.
Bhearit them turned toward Kavani as she picked up a shirt and folded it. “I do feel as though I should stay,” he replied and swallowed. “You did for me. Let me help.”
Bhearit picked up a large sheet and shook it out, trying to think of something else to say. “That is, if you don’t mind,” he added. He suddenly felt strange conversing so politely with this battle mare. It was mutual, too. Not that long ago, Kavani seemed very matter-of-fact and did not appear to care about what others thought of her. Except this time, she seemed to care very much with him.
A flood of questions tumbled through his mind, but he was too exhausted to sort them out. Bhearit looked at Kavani, who was nearer now, and felt a strange sort of warm feeling in his chest for a moment. Her face was hardened into a scowl as though she were focusing intently on her duty at hand or on some train of thought going through her mind.
Bhearit wondered what Kavani thought of him. Not that it matters, of course, he thought. Realizing that he had likely been staring, Bhearit returned his focus on the sheet in his hands. It was a good deal more difficult than he had thought. (SORRY ITS SO MUCH SHORTER THAN YOURS 😭😭 I don’t want to make it too much for you to respond to!!)
(Hey... I am so sorry for being gone for so long. School has just been so much busier lately, especially with my extracurriculars and homework. Do you think I could get a summary of what's happened if it's not too much trouble?)
He stared at the back of Callum’s head as he faced the Sun herd troops and gave his first order. What a turn of events. A centaur commanding pegasi steeds. How did this happen? Life was so much easier when his biggest problem was late night patrols.
With a huff, Rayfire opened his wings and was about to lift off, when he remembered a crucial detail: Callum’s lack of wings. Rayfire frowned and grit his teeth; they would have to search from the ground, like common horses, which would be far less efficient than by air. But, they didn’t have much of a choice since Callum was the only one who had any sort of idea what they were looking for.
He snorted loudly, “We should head out if we want to keep the sunlight.” He muttered to Callum beneath his breath, before pointing at the forest with his large muzzle.
(NEVER SAY NEVER MI AMIGO)
Kavani:
She stood with Kollin still clinging to her waist. She patted his head and tickled his ears, “It’s alright now, little monkey. Everything’s okay.”
Kollin didn't reply and shook his hands up and down -Kavani guessed he was overstimulated from the intensity of the last few minutes. She gave her little brother one final hug, wiping the last of his tears from his face, before turning and assessing the clutter. Bhearit seemed to be trying to help pick things up, but he paused often and seemed distracted.
Perhaps he was taken aback by how ruthless her mother could be when she was angry, and the destruction that followed. Or maybe he was thinking about the dramatic scene that just went down: she wished she could say it was the first time.
Now that the fury and pain had dissipated, she was left with only a numb, sick feeling in her stomach. Bhearit had witnessed the whole thing, and had even been threatened because of her. He had stood with Kollin to comfort him, then laid with her as she selfishly, stupidly broke down. Even now, he’s still here. Still helping her clean up the mess that he didn’t deserve to get involved in. When Kavani mustered up the courage to look his way, Bhearit stood with his back to her and he blankly stared down at his hands.
Kavani sighed deeply, glanced down at her own hands, before slowly making her way over to Bhearit, picking up any article of clothing she found along the way.
“Bhearit?” She didn’t wait for him to turn to look at her, “I appreciate the help, but don’t feel like you need to stay. I can finish up here no problem, and I’m sure there’s other things you’d rather be doing. I’ll gather your belongings and clean them if need be, but I don’t want you to feel like you’re stuck here with us.” She forced her voice to remain steady and calm, even though a storm of emotions broiled and churned inside.
“Once everything is cleaned and sorted out, I’ll leave Kollin with Naomi before going to the training fields: I really, really need to hit something.” She thought to herself and kept herself busy by folding one of Kollin’s shirts.
Avery:
She tore her eyes away from the battling stallions during a brief break as both boxers paused to catch their breath. She glanced at Govind and offered a small smile, “Well, I’m not sure how long me and Cole will remain in Iraweigh after his match but… if you’d like to work with me, at least until we leave, I’m always open.” She laughed softly, “I can play a variety of instruments, if that’s what you need. Or perhaps you’d like a backup dancer?”
Her smile grew. “I don’t have many artistically creative friends back in Jonirestown, so I’ve enjoyed my time here with you and Jocelyn. Creating music and talking about our passions.”
Amos:
“Sounds like a plan.” He nodded once at the young centaur Smurthi was referring to, before turning on his heels and walking back towards the clanging hammers and hot forges of the blacksmith, figuring that the conversation and business transaction had finished. “Oh, and,” he looked over his shoulder at Smurthi’s page, “If I’m not here, just give it to one of the other blacksmiths. They’ll know what to do with it.” Finally, he waved at Smurthi, “Don’t work too hard! That’s what apprentices, or pages, are for.” He called before heading inside.
(Oh! By the way Aspi- I got a new phone recently, and for some reason I can't find my Discord log in so I have to make a new account 😭 could you send me your username again? I just wanted to let you know in case you've sent me something recently! I don't want you to think I was ignoring you- just got a new phone XDDD)
Lakha: He held his muscles very tense, straining against the urge to attack Cole while he wiped sweat from his face - but no, he had to let Cole beat him now.
Come on, attack me again, Lakha begged in his head. Defeat me quickly and end this humiliation. He gritted his teeth, looking around the ring to the cheering audience. Would this be the last time he saw an audience cheering?
There was still cricket, though… Russel would keep using him as long as he was on Chandra’s team.
Govind: “That’s good, you should have something to look forward to.” So long as Cole was it good enough shape to take Avery out after this match!
“Honestly, I’m not sure. I broke up with my performance partner a few days ago. I was hoping that Jocelyn would join me, but she can’t either.” He would search for a new partner… until his funds ran out.
Smurthi: She was pleased that Amos was allowing her to shake his hand. She squeezed firmly in her shake. “I look forward to working with you. I’ll make the funds available to you within a few hours. My page here will deliver the first installment.” She nodded towards Sultaan.
On one hand, it was strange to give such a large amount to a new servant to transport, but she could sense that he was honest in that he had done all the other tasks effectively. It was safer to send him to. He didn’t have a reputation as her page yet, so no one would expect someone as poor and shabbily dressed as he to be carrying so much money.
Yooo I'm backkkkk :,D I am so sorry y'all hahahaha
Been doing lots of not fun writing that drained my eagerness to RP but I'm finally done with that so now I'm SOOOOO READY to get back in!! Thank y'all so much for your patience!!!!!!!)
Yeah I was imagining not a whole lot, but enough just in case anything happened ;))) AW FAWNROOT 😭😭)
Callum:
His eyes were already locked on Rayfire, watching him as he shouted orders to the small troop of pegasi. Then the pegasus captain directed their attention to Callum as their temporary leader.
He turned his body fully to face the pegasi, studying their different facial and body features. Each unique, each with a name, each with a family, some older, some younger, but all eager to do something useful. For a moment, all Callum saw was the troop of young soldiers standing there, ready for orders. One of the pegasi could have easily been Nill- a completely blond, palomino boy with wide-set blue eyes and white, white lashes. He was always eager to please him. Callum had no idea where he was now.
He swept his eyes over all fifteen steeds. “I am Callum, as you already know. Our mission is to secure that area of forest there-“ he gestured with his hand toward the trees that he and Fawnroot had gone earlier that morning. His meal had probably been eaten by now. He had to admit that he was having a bit of trouble thinking of what to say. It had been awhile since he had led anyone.
“Stay behind me, and stay together,” Callum said solemnly and turned in the direction of the meadow which stretched to meet the forest. He longed for the familiar weight of a sheathed sword strapped to his side, but he had lost that months ago. He caught a glimpse of Fawnroot in the den, her beautiful pale feathers all ruffled and shedding as leaves in the fall. Callum furrowed his brow a moment. Rayfire had better leave her alone. ( >:( )
(Darlin Kavani you are too a softie hehehehe >:))))
Bhearit:
He nodded and attempted to swallow, but his mouth was too dry. “Yeah,” he agreed and cleared his throat with effort as he quickly released Kavani and Kollin. His legs were a bit wobbly from lying down for so long.
Bhearit studied the litter hard that splayed all across the ground, avoiding Kavani’s gaze as much as seemed normal without making it look on purpose. He began to pick up random objects, carefully setting aside the things that seemed a little more valuable. They had to stop the moment sometime, but he wished it hadn’t been so abrupt.
He risked a glance at Kavani, who seemed to have returned to her old, indifferent self again. Her cheeks and nose were still rosy from crying, but her lips were pursed in a firm, straight line. The image of Kavani’s gaze was still engrained in his mind- her green eyes shining from her tears like a new leaf in spring rain. And looking at him- who knew what she was thinking behind that piercing gaze? Bhearit looked down at his fingernails, suddenly finding it hard to believe that he had ever held her hands just a few moments before. Bhearit chose to be grateful for what few precious moments he had had, which now felt like a dream. It was never to come again and was now in the past. (ARE YOU SURE ABOUT THAT)
Cole:
Was that a smug look on Lakha’s face? His opponent looked pleased with himself. Cole grinned slightly at the thought.
He waited, one fist lowered in defense of his abdomen and horse chest, and the other raised for either offense or defense. He needed a moment to catch a breath. The sky was clear of clouds, so there was no barrier between his bare shoulders and the sun. Sweat trickled into his eye, and Cole tried to blink it away, but he ended up wiping his face.
(Oh yeah, character development!! Hehehe)
Tyn Asti:
He gazed at the foreign mare- the way she tensed, her eyes widening ever so slightly, her thick accent rising a little in agitation.
“There is, but it is a much more advanced class. Harder,” he explained patiently. “There are things in the children's class that you must learn before you move on. You would be crushed in the adult class. There might be others your age who will be in the children’s class, who knows? The important thing is learning how to get along well in this new society you’re in. The adults' doesn’t help with that.”
Tyn tapped a leather-bound folder onto his desk and opened it. “Tomorrow morning- oh, I’m sorry. What would you like to do then, Miss Reba?”
He glanced at Govind out of the corner of her eye, before looking back at the two stallions in the ring. "He says he's alright, but I don't really believe him. He likes to downplay stuff like that for my sake since he knows I can get easily anxious, but it honestly just makes me more worried." She replied truthfully and sighed heavily. "Well, either way -win or lose- we have plans to go out to eat and spend some time together, so I'm just looking forward to that."
She allowed herself to glance at Govind again, "What about you? Do you have plans after this?"
Amos:
He nodded as Smurthi spoke, following along with her words and agreeing with the terms she has set. 25% seems like a large percentage -in the past he's never had to pay more than 20% interest- but then again, it seems like this would be a large loan, so in the end, the blanace would be the same. And besides, two years is a long time; he had no doubt he could pay back the banker with time to spare.
Satisfied and encouraged, Amos smiled at Smurthi and nodded once more. "I agree to your coniditions. Looks like you have a partner." And he held his hand out to shake, to seal the deal, and set the promise.
His sister's words did make him feel safer, but what he saw in her eyes scared him. She looked so very determined to make wrongs right that he doubted she would back down any time soon. What he worried was that she might focus too much on this one resolve and forget about her own well-being.
"Thank you, Carmela." He took his sister's fist in his hands and gently uncurled her fingers. "I will help you." Together, he knew, they would be strongest.
Govind: Once Avery had made her way over, he asked her, “Is Cole doing alright?” He was still moving powerfully as he had in the beginning of the match, but he was taking a lot of hits harder than before.
Hold out, big man, he wished he could tell him. But Cole would have to be an idiot not to see how badly Avery needed him to come out of this in one piece.
Smurthi: She saw that Amos was taking his time, so she followed suit. After considering for a moment, though she already knew what she wanted to say, she explained, “It’s not a matter of when you pay me back, but how. You will pay me back with 25% interest. Since we don’t know how long the conflict will last, I’ll forgo the usual monthly payment schedule and allow you to pay me what you can each month. You’ll have flexibility to pay at your own pace, so long as you don’t take more than two years after the conflict has ended.”
Carmela: She sighed and leaned over to give Romie a big hug. At least he still appreciated her touch and could still manage to let her arms wrap around him…
“I could remind you of all the guards that surround Irichad and keep us safe,” she said. “But I know it isn’t lions and bears you are afraid of.”
She squeezed her hands into fists. “Soon enough I’ll make sure you have nothing to be afraid of.”
Resolve hardened in her heart. The chiefs had failed Romie and they had failed Irichad. They promised security but in the end had left their own to die. It was time for them to go.
Lakha: He had left his ribs undefended and he was knocked back across the ring. His instinct was to run, but he kept his hooves planted and made a show of being disoriented.
At least he was a better boxer than he had thought. It was hard not to be pleased when he had managed to hit Cole so hard with his fists.
Reba: She didn’t have to understand what Tyn Asti said with those raised eyebrows being so obvious. And she knew enough to know that she was being put in a children’s class. “There isn’t a class for adults?” she asked, a lump of anger rising in her throat.
This was ridiculous! Imagine a grown woman next to a bunch of illiterate kids? She was positive that she was smarter than any of them! And if it weren’t for the fact that she couldn’t speak Centak, she was probably more qualified than the teacher!
(Keep in mind, she used to be a princess, so this sort of education will take adjustment)
He leaned into his sister's hand and looked into the dreges of his tea cup, as if he were reading his own fortune. Even if he had been able to read his fortune, he had no idea what he wanted it to read. His future still felt so murky and uncertain.
"Carmela, I'm not okay," he finally admitted, keeping his voice low as to not wake Kilory up. "I know that I am safe here, but it is hard to feel safe when circumstances have trained me otherwise."
She cleaned her room, putting away her outfits and straightening up. It was late, bed time even. Running her fingers over the new medical book she has receieved from Colchi, she walked over to a bookshelf. She slid the book into place beside several other plant and medical based books. She looked out the window one last time and then checked on the girls before sliding into her bed where she lay awake, staring at the ceiling. She thought about Colchi and how she missed him dearly. "But he's doing better now." She said aloud. A tear escaped her eyes as they closed and she fell asleep.
(How's that as an "introduction" to coming back xD)
He snorted as the centaur stallion made his way from the medicine mare den, and back to the meadow. The centaur stood at the ready with tensed muscles, but his eyes told of different story.
He looked up at the medicine mare den, and he saw the mare standing at the entrance, watching Callum and the meadow with a worried, forlorn expression.
Rayfire narrowed his eyes at her. So... that's why Callum looks so distracted.
If this centaur couldn't focus and get his mind out of the clouds, then there was no way this would work. Rayfire looked out at the pegasi steeds. "Listen up!"
He opened his left wing. "Those of you on this side, stay in the meadow and help keep everyone calm and grounded." He folded his left wing, and opened his right one. "Those of you on this side will follow Callum." Rayfire pivoted his gaze back to the centaur and whistled sharply at get his attention. "These steeds are yours. Lead them well, and they will not fail you." He grumbled before nodding out at the battle steeds before them, who's sharp attention swiveled to the centaur.
(I'd imagine there's probably 15-20 ish steeds? Obviously Rayfire isn't gonna give Callum an entire army, but a squadron around that size would probably work!)
Fawnroot:
She swallowed as Rayfire glared at her from across the meadow. Did he know that she told Callum? No... there was no way he knew. And even if he did, would it matter? The stallion hasn't even looked at her in months.
She took a step back, deeper into the comforting darkness of the den. "I never should have told him." She whispered gravely to herself as the pegasi captain organized the troops, and assigned Callum to a squadron.
Guilt and regret tightened her chest and she took another step back. She exhaled sharply and pinned her ears, before going back to Rimecrest. As she adjusted his body in the moss and checked on other pateints, she began muttering to herslef, "What were you thinking? Sun herd is on the verge of collapse and you had the gall to tell Callum about your fatherly issues?! Ack! Well done, Fawnroot!" She snapped to herself in a low voice, before shaking out her mane hard.
"You just made things a hundred times more complicated for everyone, but nothing can be done about it now...just focus on doing your job..."
(when I get stressed and anxious i talk to myself...like a LOT. So, i understand Fawny XDDD)
(BHEARIT YOU HEARTTHROB!!!! Kavani: I AM NOT A SOFTY >:(
Kavani:
She exhaled slowly as Bhearit leaned a little closer, his forehead barely brushing the vulnerable, tender skin on her neck. Her hearts plummeted into her stomach, and she bit down hard on her tongue. The softness of his hair. The warmth of his breath. The subtle accent brightening his voice as he spoke softly. The faint scent of paper and sunshine. The feeling of his hand in hers.
She realized he was speaking and by the upturned sound in his voice, was asking her a question. But, she didn't hear it.
She suddenly became very aware of how his eyes watched her. Analyzing her features and scanning her face. She turned her head slightly so she faced him straight on. She felt dizzy under his stare, and eventually, after several eternity long seconds, his pale cheeks turned bright pink. Sunlight framed his face and casted his brown curls in golden essence. His eyes brightened in the mid afternoon sun, and she felt her own cheeks turn pink. Kavani gaped down at him, "Bhearit..."
She couldn't breathe: it felt like Kollin was squeezing all the air out of her lungs. It was too much. He was too close.
She ripped her eyes away from him and stared down at the ground.
"I need-" Her voice cracked and she immediatly cleared her throat. "I need to stand. My legs are asleep." Her legs weren't actually asleep, and she felt bad about lying, but she needed space from his suffocating presence and annoyingly adorable stares
"Besides, there is an incredibly big mess that needs to get cleaned up." She added and looked around them at the belongings that were scattered haphazardly across the lawn.
(AAAAAA KAVANI YOU RUINED THE MOMENT HOW DARE YOU!!!)
Avery:
She cringed and had to bit her lip to keep from crying out as Cole took an ugly punch to the stomach. It wasn't even 10 seconds into the match, and the boxers were already pummeling each other. She weaved her way through the crowd, searching for Govind.
It didn't take long when she heard Nyke's cheers of excitement at the brawl.
Amos:
He studied the mare for a moment, before studying her words. He's only dealt with this mare once or twice before, and he rememebered being relatively pleased with her work. She was pretty infamous and seemed to have a 6th sense when it comes to making deals. However, this was different. This was a different kind of loan, different kind of buisness.
Amos took his sweet time as he pretended to consider her word: she had demanded to see him, so might as well make her wait for his response. He scratched his beard, tapped his jaw, and stared up at the sky. "I'm aware of the political situation. And you make an offer that is difficult to refuse. So I won't."
He leveled her with a grim look. "One question: When everything's over, when do you expect me to have to loan repaid? Even if profits are good and you say we should be able to pay it back fairly easily, I don't want to walk into a surprise."
It’s not. It’s never okay to do a thing like that, he thought as Fawnroot nudged him toward the others. Without looking at her, he gently touched her muzzle before leaving Fawnroot’s side.
“It’s about time,” Robinfire said and splayed his wings. He didn’t seem on edge, but he was certainly growing impatient from what Callum could tell.
“Right,” the centaur muttered, turning toward the crowd of pegasi who stood awaiting orders. They were not his to govern, so he waited for one of the pegasus captains made their commands. If only Fawnroot had not told him about Rayfire, now everything was going to be a bit harder for Callum. No. If only he had not questioned her further. It was not her fault.
(KAVANI YOU BIG OL SOFTY WEEE)
Bhearit:
He met Kavani’s gaze, and her smile set his heart racing all over again as though it hadn’t been already. His lips quivered as he tried to form words to express how he felt, but he simply could not.
Bhearit wanted to hold her gaze longer, to study her face and her beautiful eyes, but he couldn’t. He had practically used up his confidence, and now he had returned to the hesitant, cautious Bhearit that he was.
“I’m, uh, glad it worked,” he managed to whisper. “I do mean it, truly.” He looked down again as a thousand thoughts flashed through his mind. My, you’ve certainly tripped all over yourself, huh, you clumsy fool? I’m mad to think it’ll work. I should tell her. No! Absolutely not. She is holding my hand, not just me holding hers. You’re practically head over hooves- I am so tired.
Bhearit’s forehead brushed up against Kavani’s neck and gave a long, quiet sigh. He stayed there for a moment.
“I- um…” he looked up again at Kavani. He swallowed. “Let me know how I can help in other ways, yeah?” His gaze drifted over her face, from the way her parted bangs flowed over her forehead, to her lightly freckled, tan cheeks, to her still glistening green eyes. Bhearit suddenly become hyper-aware of his own characteristics. His face reddened.
(It prbly hurt like heck tho for Cole)
Cole:
Air shot out of his lungs and a sharp grunt escaped his mouth. Gritting his teeth, Cole immediately struck Lakha in the ribs with two good strong blows. For some reason, his opponent’s choice to punch him in the stomach made him suddenly angry. Why? He had no idea, but it did.
Cole growled and began to circle Lakha with raised fists, ignoring the urge to wipe away his hair that stuck to his sweaty forehead.
(I figured as much considering all the red markings Reba saw on her paper)
Tyn Asti:
He raised his eyebrows. “What on earth are you doing all the way over here?” He muttered and shook his head before returning back to the papers.
“Unfortunately you did not do well in the exams, I’m afraid,” Tyn said aloud and looked at the mare. “I’m going to have to put you with the children so that you can start fresh. Is that alright?” He wasn’t sure how big the language barrier was for Rebecca, so he watched her face to see whether she understood what he said completely.
Lakha: Once they were back in the ring facing one another, he had to fight to keep his heart quick and his hooves light. What was the point anymore? But if he really was going to take a drumming, he needed a body at its peak performance.
His usual style had to go. Running would only prolong the bout - Cole wouldn’t be able to keep up with him. He had to get up in his opponent’s face again… and ditch the hooves. Invite him in.
His breathing regular and his dignity sobbing, he rushed up to Cole and punched for his human gut, even though he predicted that it would feel like punching a brick wall.
(I don’t know if you remember, but she didn’t do very well on the placement exams and probably will need to be put in the kids class)
Reba: She gave the principal her papers. “My name is Rebecca Rahab,” she said. “From the Magrel Tribe of the Soheil Desert.” Did he know that place? Had he studied geography? If not, that would have just been gibberish to him.
(I think she is pretty notorious as the local money lender and descendent of Thaler. It’s up to you if he has dealt with her before - she could have helped him with a loan when business was slow, but as a blacksmith he’s probably on solid financial footing as long there is no funny business.)
Smurthi: “Mr. Amos, as I am sure you know, the council is preparing Johirestown for war. That will mean huge business for your smithy - you’ll be contracted for armor, weapons, and all sorts of tools. To manufacture all that you’ll need to invest in a large amount of metal ores in addition to more wood and coal for your forge. I don’t know your exact finances, but I’m you won’t be able to buy all of that up front with the normal profits from peacetime production. I’m offering you a loan to buy the necessary materials to fill the orders - you’ll make so much that you will be able to pay it back easily.”
She preferred to make her offer first. In this case, she had come to Amos, so she wanted to take leadership of the situation. He would be foolish not to take her deal, but many refused these loans out of pride.
Kilroy: He fell asleep quickly. It had been a long and tiring day, and he his mind was busy working out his next steps.
Carmela: She went over to Romie and put her hand over his back. “It’s not like you to get spooked so easily,” she said. In the past, his sharp senses would have allowed him to recognize Kilroy immediately. “Are you all right?”
(Yeah probably around 20!)
Rayfire:
@Aspidistrabloom Heyyy!!!! I searched you up on Discord and nothing showed up? Is your username the same?)
(Hey @Sunlight !!! Could you leave me a re-comment of your last one with Topaz? For some reason, I can’t find it XDD)
Callum:
(“Will they ever catch a break?”
Me: heheh probably not 😈
My OC’s: O_O
Rayfire:
(Awww Fawnroot T^T)
Callum:
XD)
Rayfire:
Sultaan:
Rayfire:
(TBC)
(HEYYYY sorry for my absence!)
Avery:
(Yeah Sunlight! That's perfectly fine!)
Romie:
(TBC)
Romie:
He leaned into his sister's hand and looked into the dreges of his tea cup, as if he were reading his own fortune. Even if he had been able to read his fortune, he had no idea what he wanted it to read. His future still felt so murky and uncertain.
"Carmela, I'm not okay," he finally admitted, keeping his voice low as to not wake Kilory up. "I know that I am safe here, but it is hard to feel safe when circumstances have trained me otherwise."
Topaz:
She cleaned her room, putting away her outfits and straightening up. It was late, bed time even. Running her fingers over the new medical book she has receieved from Colchi, she walked over to a bookshelf. She slid the book into place beside several other plant and medical based books. She looked out the window one last time and then checked on the girls before sliding into her bed where she lay awake, staring at the ceiling. She thought about Colchi and how she missed him dearly. "But he's doing better now." She said aloud. A tear escaped her eyes as they closed and she fell asleep.
(How's that as an "introduction" to coming back xD)
Rayfire:
Callum:
