(Finally finished it! @Skysun . @Stormsun @Windfeather @Riverglade some of your characters are in this. This story is in between the Interior RP and Shattered Peace RP. It is longer then my other story trades because Skysun is doing two pieces of art for me. Enjoy!)
Skysun gazed the horizon, the sun slowly rising above the water. It was a new day, just like in her life. It was time to flip over a page.
Nightwing had finally been defeated, and now she was a part of Star Herd.
Looking into the distance, she could see her friends there, grazing and talking. Moonsky, Aqauafeather, Tealflame, Moonbreeze, Galewind, Skyspring, Skysong, and Duskfeather, to name a few.
While she was happy, something was still troubling her. Something didn’t feel complete.
Skysun sighed, having no idea about what was missing.
Petalfir, her mother, rested her wing comfortingly on Skysun’s back.
“Is there something troubling you?” She asked. Skysun turned and looked at her mother, slightly startled.
“I’m not sure.” Skysun answered truthfully. “It just feels like something is missing from my life.”
Petalfir sighed, lost in emotions. “Lighthoof is running free in the Golden Meadow. You have to let go of her.”
“That’s not what is getting to me.” Skysun muttered. “Maybe it is how much things have changed. We don’t live in the desert anymore, and I only have you and Duskfeather now.”
“You also have your friends.” Petalfir pointed with her wing to the nearby meadow where Skysun’s friends were with the rest of Star Herd.
“But I don’t.” Skysun looked at her mother sadly. “We see each other sometimes, but we don’t get to hang out anymore. They are too busy being council members and captains, and I am too busy being a Sky Herder.”
Petalfir rubbed her daughters back with her wing, understanding. “Maybe you should see if one of them has time off?”
Skysun nodded, gazing at Star Herd.
~
Moonsky walked in the forest, alone. Sometimes, it felt good to get away from his family.
He walked up to a tree that he liked practicing his aim in. Being a dud, he usually couldn’t get up to the tops of trees, but this one was different.
There were several notches and crannies in this tree that made it easy to climb. Climbing easily to the top, Moonsky stepped into the hoof holds he had made and grabbed a bone breaker from his basket.
He threw it at a nearby pinecone and watched it explode into fragments. Throwing the rocks helped remind him of the time, when together, he and Skysun had been able to drive back Violetrain, a mare who was hunting them.
Moonsky’s thought grew more somber. Before they had joined Star Herd, they had been the closest of friends, even slightly more than that.
He glanced at the heart he had carved in the tree, and added the phrase “M+S”.
Moonsky grew more determined. He would tell Skysun how he felt about her, whether that took moons or years.
~
Aquafeather sat with the other council members, listening intently as Star spoke to them.
“Something is going to happen in the sky tomorrow.” He nickered.
Windfeather got to her hooves. “Do you know what?” She asked, curious.
“The moon is going to cover the sun.” Star replied gently.
“How do you know?” Morningleaf asked, worried, always liking to ask questions. “What will this mean?”
“I think I still have a small connection to the Hundred Year star. Not because I still have starfire, but because it sired me. Somehow, I just know that it will happen. It will only last a few minutes, but we need to tell the herd, so when it does happen, they will be prepared.” Star responded. Morningleaf nodded.
“Should we make an announcement the herd?” Windfeather asked, her voice somber.
“It might be better to tell everyone individually. We don’t want to cause a panic.” Star responded.
Aquafeather waited quietly as Star and Morningleaf gave each councilor a group of pegasi to tell about the eclipse. Her mind scrambled worriedly. If they forgot to tell even a few pegasi, there would be a panic.
Morningleaf told Aquafeather the pegasi she would tell, and Aquafeather was happy to hear that Petalfir was on her list. Maybe I can see Skysun.
“That’s everyone!” Morningleaf fluttered her aqua wings following Star out of the Council’s Cave.
Aquafeather went over her list one last time with Windfeather, then set off to find the pegasi she needed.
~
Skysun wandered into Crabwing’s Bay, looking for someone she could talk to. She saw Skysong, Moonsky’s sister, but the filly looked busy.
Glancing over to the right, she saw Star, Morningleaf, and the other councilors leave their cave. She flew up, spotting Aquafeather in the crowd, but again, her friend looked busy.
Sighing, Skysun flew off, looking for some one who she could talk to.
~
Morningleaf followed Star into their private nest, her heart thumping loudly. She had forgotten some names, she was sure of it.
Morninglake, their young foal, was waiting for them.
“Mammy! Daddy!” She nickered, hugging her parents. “What happened at da meeting?”
“Something very special is happening tomorrow.” Star nuzzled Morninglake.
Morningleaf looked outside, trying to remember who she had forgotten.
~
Moonsky trotted over to the cave he knew Skysun shared with her mother. He peeked his head inside, seeing that only Petalfir was in the cave.
“Can I come in?” He asked Petalfir.
“Yes, you may.” Petalfir responded, looking at Moonsky. He walked in, sitting next to Petalfir.
“You were Skysun’s friend in the Trap, right? Have you come to see her?” Petalfir asked.
“Yes, I was. I wanted to tell her...” Moonsky trailed off.
Petalfir’s thought exploded in her head. She knew that Moonsky and Skysun had been close. They had wanted to be mates, but hadn’t gotten the chance.
“You should ask her tomorrow at noon.” Petalfir nickered.
“Why at noon?” Moonsky asked, curious.
“It is a surprise.” Petalfir smiled. “Now go off on your way. I’ll ask Skysun to meet you at the beach at noon tomorrow.”
Moonsky left the cave, curious. What was going to happen tomorrow?
~
Aquafeather went back to her nest, happy that she had been able to find everyone on her list. The sky grew darker as she trudged along the forest.
She laughed as she remembered the reactions of the pegasi she told.
One, a white mare with scarlet feathers tipped in white and wavy white hair by the name of Lovesong, seemed to hardly be listening and had stared at a stallion by the name of Nightheart the whole time.
Moonbreeze, one of Aquafeather’s friends had listened intently, but kept on looking to the east. Aquafeather assumed that she was worried about her uncle, Icewind, who wanted to hunt them down.
Aquafeather lay down in her nest, feeling alone.
~
Skysun arrived back at her family’s cave feeling defeated. None of her friends had been available.
Petalfir welcomed her daughter warmly. “Any luck?”
“No.” Skysun muttered.
“Your friend Moonsky stopped over here a few hours ago.” Petalfir nickered.
Skysun’s pulse speed up. “Moonsky?” She asked excitedly.
“Yes. He wants to meet you tomorrow on the beach at noon.”
Skysun grinned. She couldn’t wait to see Moonsky again.
~
The sun rose in sky. It was nearly noon and Morningleaf still couldn’t remember the names she had forgotten. She paced back and forth, fluttering her wings.
“Mama?” Morninglake nickered. “Is something wrong?” Morningleaf shook her head.
Morninglake fluttered her wings. “What is the surprise?”
“You will see.” Morningleaf answered, her mind wandering. The moon covering the sun. The sun and the moon. Sun and moon...
“That’s it!” Morningleaf cried. Morninglake cocked her head.
Morningleaf ran out of the cave.
~
Moonsky waited patiently at the beach. He considered what he should do.
Should I ask Skysun to be my mate? What if she says no?
Moonsky’s thoughts swirled wildly in his head, and he pawed the sand, nervous.
I have done so much, I can’t back down now.
~
Aquafeather grazed with her brother Tealflame, nervous about the eclipse that would happen in about an hour.
Morningleaf galloped over to her. Aquafeather, turned startled.
“Aquafeather.” Morningleaf panted. “I need you to find Moonsky and Skysun immediately. They don’t know about the eclipse.”
Aquafeather nodded, her heart racing. She had talked to Petalfir yesterday, and had learned that Moonsky and Skysun were going to the beach at noon.
The beach was far away, and if Aquafeather didn’t get there quick enough, the eclipse would happen and the others would panic.
Aquafeather flew as fast as she could heading towards the beach.
~
Skysun landed at the beach, looking for Moonsky. It was nearly noon. The sand reminded her of the desert, where she had lived once.
Scanning the sand, she was able to spot Moonsky’s blue wings. She trotted over.
“Moonsky!” She nickered happily, nuzzling him. Moonsky nuzzled her back.
“I haven’t seen you in a while.” Skysun nickered.
“We’ve both been busy.” Moonsky responded.
“Do you remember the first thing I ever said to you?” Skysun smiled.
Moonsky paused, thinking. “You asked me if I was coming. We were trying to find out who was screaming, and it turned out that Galewind had fainted and fallen from the sky.”
“And then you said, ‘You don't need me since I can't fly.’ We’ve come so far since then.” Skysun neighed.
The past flickered between them, all the adventures they had shared and all the moments they had spent together.
“Skysun.” Moonsky nickered, keeping his eyes focused on her caramel colored eyes. “Will you be my mate?”
~
Aquafeather was a blur, her feathers flapping wildly. She saw Moonsky and Skysun in the distance, but she was too late. The moon inched in front of the sun.
~
“Of course.” Skysun nickered without hesitation.
The newly made mates nuzzled each other under the darkened sky.
Skysun looked up at the sky. “What is happening?” She asked nervously, pointing with her wing at the moon, which seemed to have a ring of flames around it.
Moonsky exhaled. “It was the surprise your mother told me about. An eclipse.”
“The moon and the sun, together, like us.” Skysun grinned.
~
Aquafeather slowed down, seeing Moonsky and Skysun smiling at the eclipse.
“Everything is as it should be.” She whispered.
