This is a new series that I a starting and I hope you like it. It is set after the "Beneath the Weeping Clouds" book and is about Echofrost and Hazelwind :)
(Chapter 1)
“Come on!” Echofrost whinnied as she lifted off into the fading blue sky. Hazelwind galloped after her and the rest of Storm Herd followed. They were finally free. After many moons of slavery by the Landwalkers and the Gorlan giants, Storm Herd had reunited and continued their journey to find a safe home. Echofrost studied her friend as they flew in a triangle formation across the dense jungle. His dark jade feathers fluttered in the wind and his strong muscles rippled under his buckskin coat. They were not young fillies and colts anymore and the days of dozing in Dawn Meadow had long passed. Echofrost felt a pang of sadness as she remembered the endless games that she played with her friends Morningleaf, Star and her twin brother Bumblewind. She found herself wondering for the hundredth time if Star had defeated Nightwing or if the pegasi of Anok were under Nightwing’s power once again. She shook her mane trying to focus of the future she had here and let the cool evening breeze relax her thoughts.
“There it is!” A young colt with red feathers exclaimed after a while, as a huge open field surrounded by snowy mountains and tall trees came into view.
“Woah!” Echofrost gasped as she studied the territory. It reminded her of Sun Herd’s grazing lands, and she felt hopeful. The trees provided shelter from the wind and rain, the large grassy field was great for grazing and a safe area for newborn foals, the mountains stopped most of the harsh winds and there was a shallow cave in the side of the mountain where the elders and newborns could go.
“It’s perfect.” She breathed. Storm Herd floated onto the grass and began shoving the rich grasses into their mouths. As soon as Echofrost landed, she trotted over to Hazelwind and pressed her forehead against his.
“Thank you.” His dark eyes stared into hers and she could feel his warm breath on her nose. They exchanged breath and cantered to the front of the group. Hazelwind flared his wings to get everyone’s attention and the steeds stopped and looked at their leader. Echofrost sighed happily as she watched her mate and thought about what an amazing leader he would become. His father, Thundersky, shined through him every day and he aspired to be as great as his father was. If only he could see how great he really was.
“Redfire, Grassfire, and Smokefire, gather up your steeds and begin to patrol the area and scout for predators. The rest of Storm Herd, relax and begin to get used to your new home!” Hazelwind dismissed the patrols and kicked off to join Echofrost on a tall rock.
“This is all I ever wanted,” Hazelwind folded his wings, “To lead a herd across the water and find a perfect home.” Echofrost sighed and leaned into him. His body gave her warmth and she felt safe. She closed her eyes and drifted off to sleep.

Echofrost woke up to soft jade feathers tickling her nose. She got up gently as she didn’t want to disturb Hazelwind and trotted over to the field. It was dawn and the open sky had turned a soft shade of pink. The bright stars were beginning to fade as the sun started to rise. Echofrost kicked off and flew up as high as she could manage. One star shone brighter than the others and she stared at it feeling sad, wondering if her friends back home were looking at the same star right now. Echofrost wanted nothing more than to see Morningleaf’s shining eyes, Star’s happy face or even to hear Brackentail’s loud laugh as they played tag.
“I will see you again one day,” she whispered to the stars, “one day I will come back and play with you once more.” She sighed sadly and dived down to her new home. She flew parallel with the pine trees and let her hooves skim the spindly branches. The creamy moon cast a white glow on the small creek that ran through the meadow. As she landed gracefully next to Hazelwind, she remembered Rahkki and felt a sharp pang. She knew that he didn’t need her anymore, but she had a hole in her heart where he used to be. Echofrost looked down at her shoulder which branded the mark of the Sky Guard. Her and Rahkki had matching brands and she felt connected with him even though he wasn’t here. She drifted off to a restless sleep where she dreamt of her twin brother Bumblewind and his lifeless body being carried to the tribute.
WOW! This is AWESOME!!!!!!!!! I've always wondered what happened to Storm Herd after Beneath the Weeping Clouds.
Wow, this is great!!!!!
I like it! And I thought it was interesting that she even wanted to hear Brackentail, after all he did to her. But of course she misses home, and she forgave him....
