Riverglade stared after her father, his final words to her echoing in her mind: "We will get you as soon as another chance comes. Your mother and I are proud of you." His voice caught, and she thought she saw a small tear in the corner of his eye. Stormwing nuzzled his filly one last time, and said "Stay strong, Riverglade." Then he kicked off into the evening sky, his dark blue feathers falling behind him in the wind like teardrops.
It has now been two moons since that night, and Hawkwing hasn't let Riverglade and Lightbreeze see each other. Riverglade has made a few friends, but is constantly under guard, having made multiple escape attempts already. None of them were successful.
Her flight-feathers were slowly growing back, but it will still be another 3 moons till she can fly again. Plains Herd was just given the news that they were migrating to their winter grazing lands in the south. Because they couldn't fly, Riverglade and Lightbreeze are migrating with the walkers, closely guarded by the guards they're being assigned.
The walkers, with Riverglade and Lightbreeze, are leaving the next day. Riverglade spent the night with her friend, Starsky. The delicate dappled gray filly had mint green feathers, and was Hawkwing and Mooncloud's filly. She was the same age as Riverglade.
The two fillies grazed side by side. Suddenly Starsky lifted her head and stared into the sunset. Not looking at Riverglade, she said "I'm going to miss you when you leave. Do you think you'll come back?"
Riverglade stopped mid-chew. "What do you mean?"
Starsy lightly bumped her friend's hip with hers. "You know what I mean," She said.
Riverglade sighed. She did. But she didn't want to say it, knowing it would hurt Starsky's feelings.what Starsky meant was that if Riverglade thinks there will be a chance for her to escape, knowing that if there is, she'll take it.
Finally, Riverglade answered. "If there is a chance, I'll take it."
Starsky looked up, her dark brown eyes brimming with emotion. Riverglade blamed herself for the tears. The dappled filly was fairly sensitive, and had a tendency to tear up at the smallest thing, much unlike her sire. Riverglade knew she was Starsky's only friend. She had seen the other foals ignore her and act as if she didn't exist. Most of the foals didn't dare bully her outright, because they're scared of what Hawkwing would do to them if he found out.
And yet she still said it. But the tears never came. Instead, Starsky whispered "Why are you like this?"
Those five words hit Riverglade harder than any number of tears could. But Starsky wasn't finished. " How can you just take any slim chance you have of escaping, knowing it most likely work, that you could get even more injured, never fly again, or even die?"
(and, I'm ending it there! Otherwise it would have been too long XD)
In the chapter I am currently writing, It's going to be a check up chapter on Sablestone, and I was wondering if any of you want your characters in it. Yes, @Iceberry, I am going to go through with the scene we jokingly made up when you confessed your love for Sablestone XD and for that reason, I am inviting your characters to join! If you want them to be included, just give me the description, and how you might want me to include them!
