In the following days, Honeyfall spent every waking moment trying to get close to Pebblefrost and her family.
So far they seemed pretty normal for a family of pegasi. It turned out that Dragonfrost was actually Pebblefrost's half brother, this was because Dragonfrost's father had died, and his mother, Sunnyglow, had taken another mate after his death. Pebblefrost's father was a captain named Coldfire, who was strict and always acted a little nervous around Sunnyglow. The last member of their family was a mare named Patchfeather, she was not exactly related, but from what Honeyfall could tell it was only a matter of time before Dragonfrost asked her to be his mate.
The only thing out of the ordinary that Honeyfall noticed was that every so often Dragonfrost, would slip away with Patchfeather, that other stallion who had found Honeyfal, Lakefir, and another mare named Smokemoon. The four of them would be gone for hours, and no one knew where they were going.
"Why are you always staring Dragonfrost?" asked Snowfrost, breaking out Honeyfall's train of thought.
"I'm not staring at him." said Honeyfall.
"Oooooooooo." said Pebblefrost, "Do you have a crush on my brother."
"No!" snapped Honeyfall, "I do not have a crush on your brother."
"Then why are you staring at him?" argued Snowfrost.
"I'm not!" said Honeyfall.
"Yeah right." Snowfrost scoffed.
"I don't have a crush on Dragonfrost!" exclaimed Honeyfall, making several near by pegasi turn their heads. Embarrassed, the filly lowered her head. "I gotta go." she muttered and took off at a canter.
This spying thing was getting really frustrating, she just wanted to focus on her objective, but Pebblefrost and Snowfrost kept getting in her way. Honeyfall let out a deep breath, I need some alone time, she thought.
The filly slowed her speed to a nice easy walk and headed in the direction of a pond Willowfrost had shown her. Honeyfall was only a few winglengths from that water when she heard voices near by. She quietly followed them to a clearing a little ways off from the lake, then crouched by a bush to listen to the conversation.
Honeyfall soon discovered that the voices belonged to Dragonfrost, Patchfeather, Lakefir, Smokemoon, and a few others Honeyfall didn't recognize.
"All I'm saying is that now's as good a time then any." said a steel gray stallion.
"And all I'm saying is we should wait until Anok has settled down a bit." shot back a flea bitten gray mare.
"Since when does Anok settle down!" agued the steel gray, "We're pegasi for crying out loud!"
Then an exasperated looking leopard appaloosa stallion stepped forward, "Okay calm down you two."
"Beanwind is right." agreed Dragonfrost, "We should not be fighting amongst our selves."
"Yes, we need to agree on a plan to get these pegasi out of here." said Patchfeather.
The flea bitten gray whorled around and faced Patchfeather, "Do not tell me what to do, I know full well of our goals." she snapped.
Patchfeather backed away, "Sorry."
"Enough" ordered a smoky gray stallion, who was standing at the edge of the clearing. Miraculously, all the arguing steeds quieted down, "I don't want anymore fighting, is that clear."
All the steeds nodded, "Okay, now come up with a plan to get these steeds out of Snow Herd tonight." Then without another word the stallion turned and disappeared into a cave.
They must be trying to help pegasi run away and join that dumb black foal, thought Honeyfall. She stayed and listened to the rest of their planning, then quickly ran off as the group was preparing to leave.
