“My father!” Morningmist whispered.

“Your father was a brave and mighty pegasus.” Morningleaf’s voice grew quiet.

“What was his name?” Morningmist asked.

“Your father was Star.” Morningleaf whispered.

“Star!!! My father is Star!!!” Morningmist danced around a tree in excitement. “I am the filly of a black foal!”

“Quiet!” Morningleaf hissed and looked around. “No one besides Star, me, and now you know this. If anyone else knew, they might try to capture you and use you!”

“Do you mean they could use me to get Star?” Morningmist asked.

“Yes, and no one knows if you have the starfire. The only known children of a black foal are you and Riversun. You might have powers that we don’t know about yet!” Morningmist gaped.

“It is important that you tell know one but Riversun, do you hear me?” Morningleaf sternly neighed. Morningmist nodded.

Suddenly, a pegasus walked into the clearing. It was Icefeather, a pegasus who always sneered at Morningleaf.

“Everyone already knows!” Icefeather neighed. Icefeather’s gang surrounded Morningleaf and Morningmist. “Soon, we will be able to finish what Nightwing started and kill Star!” The pegasi around Icefeather cheered.

“Run!” Morningleaf screamed and flew at Icefeather. Morningmist bolted and dodged through the crowd. Several pegasi followed her.

Morningmist had never been a fast flyer and soon a pegasi had caught up with her. Morningmist remembered that this was Pebblewind, a pegasi that had always made it a game to make fun of Riversun.

Pebblewind grabbed Morningmist’s tail and pulled hard. Morningmist squealed and attempted to fly faster. More of Icefeather’s gang caught up with her.

She saw Riversun and Starfrost flying hard to help her, but they were too far away. A hoof sliced through her back. A stallion kicked Morningmist and she tumbled out of the sky.

Morningmist fell toward Big Sky Lake and attempted to right herself. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Morningleaf pinned beneath Icefeather. Riversun and Starfrost had finally caught up with her, but they were too late to stop her fall.

Morningmist hit the lake and began to sink...
