Chapter 12
Hello! Since my school just started I might be a bit slower on writing this fan fiction. However, I will try to keep going. I am always open for feedback and drawings. Thank you for reading!
They were flying through the vein between former Snow Herd and Sun Herd territory’s. Morningmist was silent as she thought of Riversun and her mother. Everyone she loved was being pulled away from her.
Starfrost was somber as well. Morningmist suspected that he was thinking of Frostfire. They were getting close to former Mountain Herd territory, where his father had grown up.
“I’m hungry!” Morningmist broke in to break the silence. It was true, because they hadn’t eaten all day and the sun was setting.
“So am I.” Starfrost whinnied. “Let’s go down and eat.” As they were about to fly down, they heard wingbeats in the air.
“I know a good place you can eat!” A pretty pinto mare flew alongside them. It was Spiderhoof!
“I know who you are! You just want to harm us!” Morningmist neighed and glared at Spiderhoof.
“I am not your enemy. Icefeather is. I want to help you!” Spiderhoof pleaded. Starfrost flew over to Morningmist.
“I have never seen her do anything bad. She must be on our side!” Starfrost neighed excitedly.
“But, she was with Icefeather. We shouldn’t trust her.” Morningmist said angrily.
“It can’t hurt.” Starfrost said. “We don’t have to let her make decisions at first.”
“Fine!” Morningmist grunted and rolled her eyes.
“Does this mean you will let me in?” Spiderhoof asked hopefully. Starfrost nodded. Morningmist turned away.
“Now, where is this food?” Starfrost drooled.
~
“Wow! These berries taste so good!” Morningmist whinnied happily. Starfrost shoveled the berries into his mouth.
“You have to try some Spiderhoof!” Starfrost snorted.
“I already had some before I found you. I am stuffed!” Spiderhoof rolled around in the grass. “They are hard to find, so eat your fill.” Morningmist ate more berries.
“Delicious!” Starfrost neighed.
~
Icefeather laughed from where he and his guards were hidden in a nearby bush. The young ones had actually fallen for it. They were eating the berries!
The berries were poisonous, and take effect in about half a day. Since the younglings had eaten them at sunset, they would be sick a little after dawn the following day.
“Now we just have to wait!” Icefeather whispered to his guards. He settled in and watched.
~
The sun began to rise and Morningmist woke up. For the first time in a while, last night she had felt full. Maybe Spiderhoof was actually their friend.
Starfrost was already awake and was eating more of the berries. Morningmist joined him.
“Where is Spiderhoof?” She neighed and popped another berry into her mouth. After swallowing, Starfrost neighed, “She said she was scouting out the area for any predators.”
Morningmist nodded and pulled more berries off the bush.
~
After eating a large breakfast Morningmist exercised her wings. Starfrost continued to eat. A sudden wave of nausea made her gasp.
“Are you okay?” Starfrost asked without looking at her and stuffed more berries into his mouth.
“I think I ate to much. I will be fine.” Morningmist padded over to a soft bit of grass and laid down. The world turned fuzzy.
Starfrost staggered and fell onto a sharp thorn bush.
“Help!” He groaned. Morningmist tried to stand but found she was too weak. Agony ripped through her stomach.
“What’s happening?” Morningmist groaned. Starfrost stood up, thorns stuck to his mane. Morningmist moaned.
“The berries!” Starfrost nickered and attempted to take a step forward. He slipped and fell belly first onto the thorn bush. Morningmist felt the darkness begin to creep in.
“No!” She screamed...
this is why you don't accept berries from strangers you dummies!
