Morningmist was the filly of Morningleaf. She had no idea who her father was and her mother never talked about him.

Morningmist had the same aqua wings and four white socks as Morningleaf and was a creamy peach color. Her mane was a darker brown with a black streak running through it.

As Morningmist woke up she noticed that her mother was grazing.

“Mama, could you tell me the story of Starwing?” Morningmist asked.

“Don’t you already know that story?” Morningleaf neighed.

“I have never heard you tell me that story and you are the best at telling stories! Do you know why he left?” Morningmist exclaimed.

“Yes.” Morningleaf suddenly grew sad. “Yes I do.”

After returning from the interior of Anok, Star grew distant from his friends. He would leave for days at a time and when he came back, he would tell no one where he went. I decided to follow him.

Star flew to the Trap and headed to the Spy Tree. He unburied something from beneath the tree. I was too far to see what it was but I could see that it was very small.

Star muttered a few words and then went home. As soon as I get home, everyone was in an uproar. Star had not come home. Brackentail had seen him fly up to the jet streams and fly north.

Even though we sent numerous search parties to the north, they came back empty hoofed. I always had a suspicion that what Star did at the Spy Tree was related to his disappearance. Even though I traveled many times to the Spy Tree, I never saw a thing.

“Mama, that is such a sad story!” Morningmist exclaimed.

“Not all stories are happy. Maybe one day someone will come along who will find out what Star was doing at the Spy Tree.” Morningleaf continued grazing.

Morningmist decided that she would go to the Spy Tree and find out what happened to Star. Morningmist knew that she could not go alone so she decided to ask her best friend Riversun to come with her...
