"NO!" Mangofrost screamed, leaping into the air and zipping in the direction of the Snow Herd steeds, kicking one in the head that was barring his teeth. "SMOKEWING, YOU BIG FOOL! You should've TOLD Jungle Herd BEFORE Snow Herd came in! YOU COULD'VE JUST STARTED A BATTLE, YOU STUPID FEATHER BRAIN!" She spat at him.
She flapped in his direction and landed next to him. He barred his teeth at her. "Be quiet, filly. I know what I'm doing."
Mangofrost narrowed her eyes as he fanned his wing at the Snow Herd steeds, and Icewing, looking incredibly stupid with a huge gash on his head that Featherbrook had given him, stumbled into the air and landed next to Smokewing.
"Steeds of Jungle Herd," Icewing neighed, pausing. Smokewing nodded impatiently, and snapped his teeth at a Snow Herd steed that was looking at fruit tree hungrily.
Icewing continued. "Some of you know who you are, for you have been training with Snakewing and his captions, for the battle that will soon come."
Some Jungle Herd steeds nervously lifted their heads.
Mangofrost stepped back, blinking hard. Snakewing HAD been training steeds. And Berrycloud and Mangofrost hadn't even known. Mangofrost's blood boiled with anger and she picked up a rock and threw it, watching happily as it nailed a prancing Jungle Herd steed with bulging shoulders in his raised head, right under his eye. The stallion flared his nostrils and looked at Mangofrost angrily.
Smokewing threw up his head impatiently. "FOR THE LOVE OF SPIDERWING! Let ME just say it!" Smokewing huffed and took a step towards his Herd. "We will be going TODAY. I will be picking a few extra warriors to bring. Thank you, Icewing. We'll meet you at the Blue Mountains." Smokewing fanned his wing dismissively.
Icewing and his party snapped out their wings and jumped into the sky, looking like huge bulls with wings as they trudged through the clear blue.
Smokewing leapt down and about one hundred and fifty steeds stepped forward. Smokewing pick thirty more with his wing, including Featherbrook and his sister, Ashrain.
"Gather your zappers and bone-breakers," Smokewing said. With a puff of feathers, each steed went in different directions. Mangofrost was half-blinded for a split second as the bright, shiny feathers flashed in her eyes.
"Well this is nuts," Mangofrost muttered as she flew over to her mother. Berrycloud nuzzled her daughter as she landed, and sighed.
"This day's been a mess," Berrycloud nickered, as if reading Mangofrost's mind.
Mangofrost nodded, wrinkling her nose.
"Mangofrost! MANGOFROST!" A male voice whinnied, and a greyish brown figure trotted through the crowd and up to Mangofrost. "Hey, Mangofrost." Grassflurry flicked his ears at Berrycloud and dipped his head. "Berrycloud," he dipped his head respectfully.
Berrycloud greeted him in return with a kind nicker.
Grassflurry looked back at Mangofrost and sighed. "I'm sorry about your sire. Also, I kinda wanna kick that goof in the head," Grassflurry said, looking at Smokewing.
Mangofrost curled her lip. "It's okay. There's nothing we can do about that now," she mumbled.
Grassflurry sighed and nodded. "Yeah." Then he straightened. "Hold up. What if we go sneaking off with the goof and his servants to battle the sunny lands too? Get some vengeance and whatnot? Touch the stars and knock em' outta the sky? No, but seriously." Grassflurry jerked his head in Berrycloud's direction, who was frowning and trying to understand Grassflurry's odd "code", or whatever it was.
Mangofrost. "You mean- YES! OH GOSH, YES! RIP UP SOME BLOODY FEATHERS AND KICK A DARK BAY IN THE HEAD, THAT'S WHAT I'LL DO!" Mangofrost pranced excitedly. They were starting to draw attention.
"Well, yeah. But try not to be so loud, because as lovely as your violent screaming is, it's not really helping us at the moment." He jerked his head again at the rest of the steeds.
Mangofrost shrugged and shook out her wings.
"Oh, NO YOU DON'T!" Berrycloud huffed, snatching Mangofrost. "I'm not losing another family member, not today I'm not! You're staying RIGHT HERE, young mare!" Berrycloud whinnied to Mangofrost.
"Oh, Mama, COME ON. I'll be fine! Besides, we won't even step over the Sun Herd border! Just watch!" Mangofrost said. She leapt into the air, and Grassflurry followed.
"MANGOFROST!" Berrycloud snapped. But Berrycloud couldn't leave, now that Smokewing and his steeds had gone. Someone needed to stay and protect the rest of the Herd. Berrycloud sighed. She had to trust her daughter. Even though she was 100% positive that Mangofrost would still launch herself into that battle.
"Oh my Ancestors," Mangofrost gasped out. She and Grassflurry were flying low, and behind the huge group of Smokewing's steeds.
Some of the steeds had already noticed them, but they didn't seem to care.
"I'm hungry," Grassflurry mumbled, flapping his huge wings.
"Gosh, same. I would love a pineapple right now. Oooooh, or some sea kelp. Or some... hmm... apples! Dear Spiderwing, anything sounds good right now," Mangofrost said longingly.
"Holy PEGASUS, grass!" Grassflurry shouted.
"Yes, grass sounds good too-"
"No, LOOK!" Grassflurry's eyes were round as he stared ahead.
Mangofrost's head snapped up, and she realized where she was. "FEATHERS! MY GOSH!" Mangofrost gaped at the huge, lush meadow that rested before them. "THAT IS SOO UNFAIR! WHY DOES SUN HERD GET SO MUCH OF THIS BEAUTIFUL STUFF?" Mangofrost nickered, stretching out her nose and staring at the huge meadow and the crystal-clear lake with wide eyes.
"I'm going to die," Mangofrost announced as she stumbled into the clearing.
"I'll join you," Grassflurry muttered.
They had finally reached Mountain Herd. The two yearlings have never flown so much in their lives without stopping.
Mangofrost dunked her head into a muddy puddle of water in-between the rocks and gulped down mouthfuls, while Grassflurry looked around.
"Hey, look," Grassflurry murmured to Mangofrost. He nodded to a silver stallion. The muscular, short stallion had blue and silver feathers, was coming their way.
Featherbrook stomped his hoof next to Mangofrost in a protective manner, while the rest of the Jungle Herd steeds bunched together in a large group.
"Where is Snakewing?" The silver stallion neighed.
"Hello, Rockwing," Smokewing said, trotting through his group of steeds and greeting Rockwing.
Rockwing barred his teeth. "And who are you?" Rockwing snorted.
"The new over-stallion of Jungle Herd, thank you. Snakewing is dead." Smokewing curled his lip and arched his neck, a smirk on his face.
Mangofrost went pale as Rockwing also smirked, tossing his white streaked black mane and curling his neck. His eyes were beady and black. And power-hungry.
