This is just a lil fanfic XDDD After creating Mangofrost, I got a fanfic idea, of course. I'm only going to continue/make Chapter 2 if you guys like this and want me too. Anyway, enjoy?
Mangofrost trotted through the jungle, flicking her silky tail and tossing her white mane into an arc.
Her papa, Snakewing, was out on a patrol, somewhere in the North. Anok was looking for Star, the black foal of the century. Sun Herd had lost him.
Mangofrost snorted in disgust at the thought of Sun Herd, as she leapt up into a tree, her wings flared as she balanced on the hoofholds.
Berrycloud, Mangofrost's mother, was with the rest of the Herd, along with Smokefire, Jungle Herd's Top Caption.
"Hey, Foxy," Grassflurry, a colt the same age as Mangofrost, nickered as he pranced underneath Mangofrost's tree.
"Go away, loser. I won fair and square last night in hide and seek."
"You did NOT. That skunk gave everything away! If it hadn't stank up my hiding spot, than it would've taken you DAYS to find me," Grassflurry said, his blue eyes narrowed at Mangofrost.
"Well, maybe you shouldn't have screeched your head off. Then, MAYBE, I wouldn't have found you in under a second."
Grassflurry flattened his ears and smirked at Mangofrost.
"What is it now?" Mangofrost gave an over-exaggerated groan and leaned over, twirling off the tree and landing on her hooves with a soft thump.
"I challenge you too a second round of hide and seek!" Grassflurry whinnied, puffing his bay roan chest and flaring his pale green feathers.
Mangofrost rolled her eyes. "Fine. Whatever. You're counting first!" She nickered, fanning her wing over Grassflurry's face.
Grassflurry pinned his ears, "Sure. Why not? I'm FOR SURE going to find you super fast."
"Pft. Your grammar is terrible," Mangofrost snorted, a smirk on her face.
Grassflurry sputtered angrily, but began counting. Mangofrost quickly lowered her wing to make sure his eyes were closed, before bounding away like a deer, leaping over bushes and ducking under branches as she followed a worn-out animal path.
"Where should I hide?" She mumbled under her breath. Last time, she had hidden in the bush under her mother's nest, and it had taken them FOREVER to find her. It had been a total winner.
They had to stay North of their territory, which was usually the safest area in their territory. Not that it WAS safe though. Mangofrost believed that Jungle Herd lived in the most dangerous territory in all of Anok. Perhaps that was true.
Lost in thought, Mangofrost finally realized that she was already less then a mile away from the border.
Mangofrost paused and stretched her wings wide, before craning her neck, looking for a good hiding spot.
She curled her neck back and pricked her ears, straining them in Grassflurry's direction. She could just barely hear his faint nickers, and Mangofrost turned back in the direction of the border. Mangofrost trotted forward, the feathering on her hooves swishing as she walked.
She squinted her eyes at a large, leafy willow, and cantered towards it. A large, wide burrow rested underneath the willow, in between two large, prickly bushes.
Mangofrost smirked. Grassflurry was too obsessed with keeping his feathers clean and his hide smooth, that he would never try to dig into this area.
Mangofrost pawed at the burrow quickly, pausing to make sure nothing was living in it at the moment, before springing inside.
She was to large to completely fit inside, but the bush to her left was large and bushy enough to hide the rest of her.
"Perfect," she nickered quietly.
Grassflurry came to view as he emerged through the trees, his nose up and his wings flared as he brushed them across the trees and bushes.
He trotted right past Mangofrost and off to the lake.
Mangofrost grinned and poked her head out to watch him leave, his tail swishing determinedly.
Mangofrost waited for a long while, until he was out of sight, before stretching out her neck and unfolding her legs.
Then, she heard it. Wingbeats, and nickers. Mangofrost flared her nostrils and quickly tucked herself back into the hiding spot, watching carefully.
Four pegasi, with colorful shades of green and yellow wings.
Mangofrost exhaled in relief. These must be Jungle Herd pegasi. She didn't reveal herself yet, though, because she could still be wrong.
"Should we go straight to Jungle Herd?" One nickered as they landed on the grassy, lush ground.
"Probably. But what would we say? You know that Berrycloud would say everything is our fault. And Smokefire would probably just be his smug self and decide to make himself the new over-stallion," a light bay appaloosa stallion nickered with a shudder, his sapphire-tipped pale yellow feathers rattling. The stallion looked thin and stressed, and even from the distance, Mangofrost could see the stallion's round, scared-looking eyes.
WHAT!? Mangofrost thought, And is that Featherbrook!? Mangofrost squinted at her older cousin. Yes, that's Featherbrook.
Featherbrook had gone with Snakewing, along with three other steeds, to go hunt for Star, the black foal.
Mangofrost sucked in her breath and leaned forward, scanning the other steeds. None of them were her sire.
"I wish Snakewing were here," a bay steed that was standing next to Featherbrook said.
What happened to Mangofrost's sire!? Where was he? Why isn't he here? Mangofrost felt dizzy as questions and doubts flooded her mind, and she reached out her wing to clutch her head. She squeezed her eyes shut, her feathers pressing against her forehead.
I bet he's fine. He probably stayed behind to look for Star or something, Mangofrost thought hopefully as she looked up, shedding feathers.
Mangofrost watched as the four steeds each looked at each other, before one-by-one, leaping into the sky and flapping towards the rest of the Herd.
Mangofrost stood and watched them go. After a moment, she trotted after them, her wings quivering to much to flap.
"HA! FOUND YOU!" Greenflurry whinnied as he raced at Mangofrost, a wide grin on his face.
"Cool, but I have to go," she said, shoving past him without even looking at his face. She shook out her wings and leapt into the sky, flapping rapidly as she sped up.
She shot in the direction of the rest of the Herd, not letting the faint dots of the four steeds out of her sight.
She could hear Grassflurry's whinny, asking where she was going, but Mangofrost ignored it.
Finally, she could see the steeds touch down, and Mangofrost shot forward. She hovered for a moment as the steeds exchanged breath with her mother. Mangofrost flicked her long, wavy white tail, before fluttering down next to her mother.
"Mangofrost!" Featherbrook nickered in shock.
"Yes, Featherbrook. I'm Mangofrost. Anyway, spill. What happened to Snakewing?" Mangofrost hissed.
Alarmed, Featherbrook flattened his ears.
Startled, Berrycloud wrapped her orange and white wing around Mangofrost and narrowed her eyes at the steeds. "What is Mangofrost talking about? Where is Snakewing?" Berrycloud nickered, and Mangofrost could feel the muscles on Berrycloud's wing stiffen.
"Berrycloud... Snakewing... Snakewing is dead," Featherbrook whispered, lowering his head.
"Dead!?" Berrycloud choked. Mangofrost went pale, and her jaw dropped open.
"Yes. Th-The black foal. We found Star, by the bay. He... he sent a huge, monstrous sea creature to... kill Snakewing."
"Stop being foolish! Star can't control a sea creature!" Berrycloud spat, and Mangofrost saw that Berrycloud was close to tears.
"Berrycloud, an orca leapt up and snatched up Snakewing, with Star standing right next to him, unharmed. I-I brought... you this." Featherbrook nipped at a forest green feather that was tucked in his pale wing, and dropped it in Berrycloud's wing.
Berrycloud wept and pressed the feather into her muzzle, sobbing.
Mangofrost leaned against her dam, feeling drain. "What... what happened to Star? D-Did you kill him? Please tell me you did. He deserves a vicious death, especially after this," Mangofrost rasped, her nostrils flared, showing the pink. She looked at Featherbrook with her amber eyes, her ears pinned.
"N-No. We... were afraid he'd kill us too."
WOW. So now Mangofrost wants revenge.... I wonder how THAT will turn out.
Wow! I love this! It goes so well with the story!
