Nightriver glanced behind her, they were still staring. She sighed and gave up, not bothering to take a running start like most pegasi preferred. She lifted into the sky, beating her powerful wings. She galloped through the air gracefully still feeling their eyes of the several colts on her. Nightriver landed next to Darksun.

"Hey!" "Hey yourself!" She whinnied back playfully. "Up for a game Darksun?"

"Do I hear a challenge?"

"I think you do Darksun!" Jadeleaf exclaimed trotting over. The three fillies laughed, "So, what's the challenge?"

"See that peak?" Nightriver pointed her wing into the sky, at Eagle Peak. The highest cliff in their grazing lands. "We race to there and back." Darksun pranced around nervously, "I don't know Nightriver.... that seems kinda dangerous....." Just then Smokeglade and his gang of colts showed up,

"What are you doing Nightriver? Darksun? Jadeleaf?" She resisted the urge to role her eyes. Just like practically all the colts in the herd Smokeglade and his gang only saw her beauty. She knew that she was beautiful. She had been told this far to many times, yet not one of the pegasi who told her, save her deceased mother had actually meant it.

"Go away Smokeglade." She said, rolling her eyes.

"But why? We want to play too." He replied, faking innocence. Jadeleaf sighed,

"Fine Smokeglade. Just this once." His gang nickered in happiness,

"Thanks! What are we playing?"

"We're doing a race! Here to Eagle Peak and back." Darksun explained.

"That sounds fun" Said Flamewind, "I'll be announcer!" They all lined up while Flamewind stood in front of them,

"Ready, Set, GO!" He exclaimed flaring his blood-red feathers. Nightriver shot into the sky, pumping her wings hard, she could hear Brakenflame, Smokeglade, Jadeleaf and Shadestripe behind her, Darksun was right next to her. With a determined whinny she beat her wings fast, Nightriver touched the peak with her hoof and dove back to land. She angled her wings, as the land grew closer and closer. Then with a loud snap she opened her wings and landed gracefully beside Flamewing.

"I win." But then, disaster struck. Just as the others landed a HUGE stallion who appeared to be from Arctic Herd landed next to them.

"Well..... look what we have here. Fillies and Colts.... both from Rain Herd." 3 more stallions touched down, surrounding them all. Nightriver backed up nervously and spread her wings, shielding Darksun and Jadeleaf.

"Oh.. what's this?" The stallion trotted up to her, "Trying to protect your friends? Well don't. Your all in for the same fate now. Hopefully or not so hopefully Icesky will be merciful to you." He said batting her away. She stumbled and landed on her side, then an idea popped in her head, it was risky but it meant that at least the others would hopefully- get away. Hopefully. Nightriver laid on her side a couple more seconds then suddenly surged up, flaring her wings, rearing and kicking wildly.

"Run!" She shouted to the others, 2 of the stallions quickly followed the weanlings as they tried to escape but the third stayed. With a powerful kick she was on the ground stunned, then the stallion stomped on her wings, breaking them. Nightriver screamed loudly and felt her eyes roll back into her head, she felt dizzy all of a sudden,

"Don't try that again filly. Icesky will see to you." He hissed into her ears. With that the world faded into blackness.
