I really enjoyed doing my "Origin of Honeyfall" story a little bit ago, so I decided to do another story in the same sort of style, and who else better to do it of then Snowfrost? Especially since I did mention a few details about him that went unexplained in Honeyfall's story that I think may have confused anyone who hasn't been around since the stone ages of the MB đ. The funny thing about this, is that Snowfrost as actually be around longer (so to speak) then Honeyfall, so I almost kinda wish that I had done these in the opposite order, but oh well. This will also be the first time that I've really deep dived into a Snowfrost's specific storyline, and so there were a few areas that I wasn't even totally sure I would take it to in until it got there.
Also, like before with Honeyfall's story, I did just want to give an explanation about all the names listed in here because there are a number of names that are thrown in only once and never mentioned again. These were all characters that played important roles in previous stories that I have put out, I and chose to include them "manely" for old times sake. I will also say that I'm sorry for any potential confusion caused by me using any name that is used by another member on the MB. Many of these characters were named quite a while ago, and I would not like to go though the process of renaming them.
Now, before I can take myself down another rabbit hole, here's Snowfrost's story:
The Origin Of Snowfrost
(as told from the perspective of Snowfrost)
Have you ever had anyone tell you a lie? A lie so deep that when it was revealed it changed the way you looked at the world? The way you looked at yourself? Well, thatâs what happened to me, but for you to understand, I should probably start at the beginning. Or, at least where things started for me.
I was born in Snow Herd, the same year as Star, the black foal was born to Sun Herd. My sire, Tundrafrost, had died several moons before, which just left me and my dam, Lilacdrop. I was always amazed at the strength she exhibited when it came to my upbringing, because she was having to do pretty much everything on her own and I was quite the wingfull as a young colt. Thankfully, Lilacdrop was able to rely heavily upon her best friend, Sunnyglow, who shared common ground with my dam as she had also lost her mate many years before.
From day one, I spent a lot of time with Sunnyglow and her family, which consisted of her new mate Coldfire, her adult colt she had with her first mate, Dragonflight, her filly Pebblebreeze, and Dragonflightâs mate Patchfeather. And because of the closeness of our families, Pebblebreeze and I became friends as we were so near in age, but we did not become truly close until the strange blood bay filly arrived.
From the first time I saw her, there was something about the new commer that drew me to her. However, it wasn't until Ashberry, the mare who had been assigned as the fillyâs foster mom, introduced me and Pebblebreeze to her that I was able to work up the courage to speak to Honeyfall. Then, I found it so easy, almost like I had been friends with her as long as I had been friends with Pebblebreeze, and it did not take long at all for our duo to become a trio.
We were a tight group and did everything together. I remember Lilacdrop even getting annoyed with me on quite a few occasions because we would be away for the whole day without checking in. This problem was resolved easy enough as Dragonflight generously agreed to monitor us when he was not preoccupied with responsibilities to the herd.
However, despite the closeness of our little group, I could sense that all was not quite as it seemed. The closer the three of us got, the more it felt like Honeyfall was holding back some piece of information. Some purpose she would not tell us. And my suspicion only grew after one day while we were playing and of course with Dragonflight watching us from a distance while talking to Patchfeather. That day, we could overhear their murmured voices discussing the latest news featuring Star, and you didnât have to hear much of the conversation to know that they were both in favor of the black foal.
Not too long before Honeyfall had arrived, Star had reached his first birthday and received his starfire. Ever since that day, this had been the greatest topic of conversation, especially since Snow Herdâs former over stallion, Icewing, had left his herd to join River Herd, the herd led by the black foal himself. Shortly after this, a former Sun Herd captain by the name of Twistfire had become the new over stallion, and Dragonflight had made no attempt to hide his disgust at the idea of a foreigner leading the herd. He was very outspoken about his loyalty to Icewing, who he still viewed as the rightful leader of Snow Herd.
Now it was clear as day that Dragonflight, Patchfeather and several other pegasi were planning on leaving to follow in the hoofsteps of Icewing. They were planning on joining the black foal.
That day, there was no chance that anyone else other than myself, Honeyfall and Pebblebreeze could have overheard them. But nevertheless, a day later, Dragonflight was dragged in front of the whole of Snow Herd and was executed as a result of what he had said.
I knew that it had to be Honeyfall who had spilled since Pebblebreeze would have never done anything that would endanger her brother. At first I was furious that my friend had betrayed us. Madder still that the betrayal had cost Dragonflight his life. But I kept my mouth shut about my suspicions as not too long after this, Pebblebreeze fell ill and knew that this bit of information would break her more then she was already broken.
However, I could not bare to even look at Honeyfall. And as Pebblebreezeâs condition worsened, I began to distance myself from the bay. And thankfully, Honeyfall appeared to be avoiding us as well which only further my suspicions.
A week or two after Pebblebreeze first showed signs of the sickness, Pineroot broke the news that she was not likely to live much longer. I did not want to accept that truth, but I forced myself to stay by her side throughout the following night. During this time, Pebblebreeze kept glancing at me knowingly, and in the early hours of the morning, she requested that everyone but me leave. It was then she asked what was troubling me, and I came clean about my suspicions. When I was done, she just looked at me for a long time, then said simply:
âI know, and I chose to forgive her.â
It was now my turn to stare, searching her for more information, but she turned away from me and closed her eyes. She passed away a few hours later.
I would not understand the impact of Pebblebreezeâs words until much later, and for now I continued on with my silent avoidance of Honeyfall. And much to my luck, Lilacdrop and I left our home in Snow Herd shortly thereafter along with Sunnyglow and Patchfeather to seek out a new life among the followers of Star.
We wandered for a time in the wilderness, to ensure that we were not carriers of the blue tongue plague, but eventually, we met up with River Herd. This whole time I tried my best to forget, and focus on adjusting to my new life.
It was a difficult time for us to join, as soon after the news broke that Nightwing, the destroyer, was not only alive, but was returning to Anok, and we went into hiding in the land known as The Trap. Things were hard there, but I saw it as a useful distraction from what had happened, and I fully devoted myself to defending my new home.
When the Black Army attacked, I fought with my new herd mates in defense of our home. And I had found that much to my astonishment, that my inherited size and strength from my Snow Herd lineage helped me greatly in battle. But despite our efforts the fight was not without casualties.
Midway through the battle, word reached me that Lilacdrop had been badly injured. I rushed to her side, and was almost too late. However, in her dying moments, my dam mustard up her strength and was able to hastily tell her truth. A truth that rocked me to the core and made me rethink everything:
Tundrafrost was not my sire. Icewing, now known as Iceriver was. She quickly explained to me while she was still my mother, that she had been tasked with raising me and to keep me out of the eye of Petalcloud as much as possible so that I would one day be able to take my place as over stallion of Snow Herd to continue my sireâs bloodline. She had become desperate after Iceriver had left the herd as she feared the increased risk of our discovery. So she took the opportunity to leave and saw it as a chance for me to finally get to know my true sire. It pained her that by the time we had fled Snow Herd, it had been too late for this to happen, which is why she had waited so long to come clean.
I was utterly stunned, and the feeling of betrayal surged through me. I desperately wanted to know more, but before I could ask, Lilacdrop was gone.
As my confusion mounted, I allowed my fear and range to take over for me, and I returned to the battle. Now that it felt as if I didn't even know who I was anymore, I unleashed myself on the Black Army. And as Untrained and young as I was, I was a force to be reckoned with.
Eventually, I was subdued, but when the dust had finally settled from the battle, I was still alive. In the end, Star and his United Army had won out, but I was disgusted by myself. I had managed to kill at least one steed during the blind furry, and the memory hunted me.
What had I done? Yes, this was a part of war, but I still could not come to terms with it. And to make things worse, my ears still buzzed with the truth my mother had spoken before her death and I felt my skin start to burn. If anything that had happened that day had shown me one thing, it was that I really didnât know who I was anymore.
Then, the destroyer arrived in the Trap, and many were killed in the ensuing chaos. The survivors were then rounded up to begin our journey into the interior, but I barely paid attention to what was going on. My head was constantly buzzing with so many unanswered questions, and the feelings of frustration and desperation. And this continued even after we had reached the spot Nightwing would imprison us.
But then, one day, I laid eyes on the familiar blue winged bay mare that I instantly recognised as Honeyfall. At first, all I felt was rage towards her, but as the days passed, and I watched her, I started to recognize something else about her. When I looked at her, it was as if I was reading the exact emotions that I had been feeling, all the rage, pain, hate, and betrayal as they were my reflection in a pool of water.
It was then I understood Pebblebreezeâs final words, and the forgiveness she had granted even though the action seemed unforgivable. Pebblebreeze had understood why Honeyfall had done what she did. She had known that Honeyfall had only acted out of her pain. Honeyfall had been suffering. She had been broken⌠and now so was I.
I was now no better than Honeyfall. We had both allowed our pain to control us, and it had been at the cost of others lives. We were both irredeemable.
With this realization weighing heavily on my heart, I was compelled to follow Pebblebreezeâs example. I decided to forgive all those who I had felt rage towards in the past. Honeyfall. Petalcloud. Lilacdrop. My true sire, Iceriver. I forgave them all. I would not allow my pain to control me any longer.
It was with this mindset that I was reunited with Honeyfall one night when she snuck a visit to see me. She came clean about everything she had done since she had originally agreed to spy for Petalcloud, and I was able to say the words âI forgive youâ and admit to her my own transgressions. I felt that this was the start of our healing.
Later, when it came time for River Herd to rise up against their captures, when the black foals had their final battle, I fought side by side with Honeyfall, and from that day forward that is where I stayed. Not to long after, I asked her to become my mate, and together we raised a total of 10 foals, 6 of which were adopted: Whiteflame, Tawnyfeather, Nightriver, Robinstrike, Beetlestorm, Swanblossom, Brightpool, Springflight, Lilacburst, and Ripplereed.
I also ended up keeping the secret of my bloodline from everyone besides my little family as I did not want to draw that kind of attention towards us, but I watched with pride as Star. The black foal of Anok. My nephew. Unite the five herds, and lead them through a time of peace and prosperity.

I love how much time you took with this :)
I just remembered that I actually had written about Snowfrost's back story before in the form of a short story I did for a challenge a few years back. I figured I'd drop the link here is anyone was interested: Lilacdrop's Foal (Short Story)
