Shadepebble nuzzled her newborn foals. Her filly Moonbreeze went to her dam's side and started nursing. Her colt, Nightray, chose instead to practice his flying. He rose up to the tip of the tallest tree, then zipped back down. Shadepebble looked at him proudly. He was born with normal wings, unlike his sister and his dam. Shadepebble's right wing was smaller than her left one, and her daughter inherited that curse. But Nightray's golden wings were perfect, like his sire's. Shadepebble sighed. Brackentail. Shadepebble knew having foals with him was a bad decision. He was mated with Echofrost, and Shadepebble was mated with Clawfire. But Echofrost, Clawfire, Morningleaf, and Star were of on a trip to find new land for Rain Herd. And Shadepebble and Brackentail had fallen in love. Shadepebble sighed. Their mates were supposed to return today. Brackentail trotted through brush. "Shadepebble, where's Nightray?" Nightray landed next to his sire. "I'm right here, Papa! And I was flying SO fast! It was fun! And my wings! Look! Their not bruised like that back stallion's!" Brackentail turned his head so quickly, his neck popped. "Ouch. Shadepebble, their back! Oh no! OK, hide Nightray and Moonbreeze! I'll go greet Echofrost! When your done, go greet Clawfire!" Shadepebble did so quickly. Then Brackentail went over to Echofrost. He sighed, then listened to Echofrost as she said she had a surprise for him. "I'm pregnant!"
