YIKES it's been awhile!!! I guess nothing motivates you to write like needing to work on an assignment that you have had over a month to do and have barely worked on it and it's due in a few hours, AMIRIGHT?!?! gosh, I'm weird.
Note: This from Minara’s point of view, and this chapter starts when Minara is born.
Chapter 5: Minara
Minara opened her eyes, seeing the world for the first time. It was very bright. Her bright blue eyes hurt from the light. Her nostrils twitched. Something felt off. Where’s my mama? She thought. She saw a two legged creature next to her. Is this my mama? She looked down and saw four black and white legs. Are these mine?
She decided the two legged creature wasn’t her mother. She blinked, confused by her surroundings. And she was hungry. Very hungry. Her nostrils twitched, smelling everything. Another two legged creature joined them. Who are they? She thought. Where am I?
The taller two legged creature held a strange object in front of her. It smelled like milk. The two creatures made noises, but she had no idea what they were saying, or what it meant. The taller creature did something with the bottle that made something come out of it. The smell of milk was even stronger now. Her nostrils twitched, and eventually, her curiosity and hunger got the better of her and she reached to get the milk. She still couldn’t reach it, and she realized that maybe her legs could help her get to the milk!
She slowly unfolded her legs and tried to maneuver them to get her closer to the milk. Her nostrils fluttered and the urge to drink the milk grew. She decided to try and stand. She slowly put her front legs in front of her and her back legs behind her. She pushed up, and shakily stood. It was hard! She was very very wobbly, and she fell over after 2 seconds. She tried again, and the smaller two legged creature placed her arms underneath her belly.
The creature’s touch felt weird. It was ticklish yet firm and soft. She felt more stable standing this time, she was wobbling around less. Minara decided to trust the creatures, as she had no other choice. The taller two legged creature made another drop of the milk come out again, and the urge to drink the milk intensified. Slowly Minara placed on hoof in front of the other to get closer to the milk. She opened her mouth and started sucking on the milk bottle, relishing in the thick, sweet taste. She drank greedily until there was no more milk left in the bottle.
She plopped down on the straw, tired. She immediately fell into a dreamless sleep upon closing her eyes. When she woke up, a new day had arisen, and it was brighter than the night before. She bleated softly, scared. There were the two legged creatures standing above her again, and a new one.
Then a huge, chestnut head poked over the side of her stall. Minara’s bright blue eyes widened in shock. She slowly stood up, curious about the creature. But she was still very unsteady on her legs, and fell down. She stood back up again, and spread her legs wide to steady herself.
The chestnut head reached over to Minara, and sniffed her. Minara trembled, but stood still. The chestnut mare squealed, but soon calmed down. Minara watched in fear and confusion. What’s happening? She thought.
“Hello, little one,” The mare nickered.
Minara startled, having never heard words she could understand before. She swished her tiny, curly black tail. “Wh-Who are you?” She blated softly, so soft the two legged creatures could barely hear her.
The mare looked at her, her black eyes intelligent and kind. “The Sandwens call be Lissna,” She nickered.
Minara’s nostrils twitched. “Are you my mama?” She asked. She was starting to get hungry.
Lissna pricked her ears. “You could say that.” She nuzzled Minara, knowing the filly lost her mother the night before.
Minara relaxed, hoping Lissna was right. The two legged creatures called Sandwens strapped a green thing on Lissna’s face, and led her out of the stall. Minara bleated. “Wait!”
The Sandwens then approached her stall, with a smaller version of what was on Lissna’s face. It was dirty, teal in color, and looked old and used. The oldest Sandwen strapped it to her face. Minara threw up her head in protest, scared. “Mama!” She bleated to Lissna, confused.
Lissna looked calmly at the Sandwens and her new daughter. “It’s ok, Minara,” She nickered. “It won’t hurt you.”
Minara calmed down, but still didn’t like it. SHe followed the Sandwens and Lissna outside of the barn and into a closed paddock. Her bright amber wings dragged behind her. She walked next to Lissna as she explained everything she was seeing.
“That’s Kali,” Lissna nickerd to Minara, pointing to the tallest Sandwen who also seems to be the oldest. “She’s Edin’s mother.” Lissna then pointed to the tall girl with long, straight black hair that was leading her. “And Edin’s friend Riko,” She indicated the shorter boy next to Edin.
Kali and Edin stopped just before a tall fence. Edin somehow opened a part of the fence and led Lissna through it, and Minara followed. Edin and Kali took off the halters and went outside the fence, closing the gate behind her and trapping Minara and Lissna in.
