She sniffed the fresh, frigid air. Her blue and white feathers fluttering to the ground from the soft breeze of winter and night. Her name was Sweetsnow.
The pretty mare stood flank to flank in her herd, trying to sleep through the bitter cold through the loving warmth of her family. Both large and small. Sweetsnow wrapped her wings around herself, this was the coldest she'd ever felt and she was half Snow Herd! There was something coming, something that was wrong with the world. Something vengeful and furious.
As the delicate, waning light of the sun rising above the snowy mountains of Anok, Sweetsnow dug her hoof into the stubbornly packed snow, searching for blades of grass. She stomped her hoof in frustration, making the packed snow be even more packed. The light mare grumbled in utter frustration.
"Hey Sweetsnow, cheer up! Winter is almost over, I can feel it." said her brother, Frostedflight, who started to help her dig.
She sighed, once more digging her hoof into the horrible snow.
"I'm not sure our granddam can survive any longer. Every day she complains about her bones aching and about food."
"I'm sure she'll be fine! I mean, what can you do other than warm her and feed her? Don't worry! Everything will be fine."
"I have an idea, but you would have to promise not to tell anyone. Not even your crush, Skyflower."
".....Sweetsnow, I promise I will not tell anyone, but what are you saying?"
"I'm saying that our granddam, Lightsplash, will certainly die if we don't go with my plan."
"Lets go over to the oak tree if its so secret. You can trust me sis, I'm here for you and I would never tell anyone this. But I must ask, not even our parents?"
