Back in the Sun Herd meadow, the two black foals dodged Eclipse’s silver flame. Darkblaze took flight and positioned himself directly over Eclipse, kicking at the Destroyer’s head. Eclipse shook himself free of Darkblaze and spun around to face him. This is where Eclipse had the advantage, in starfire use. He knew more than enough about the weapons that he had inherited. Now, he hurled spears of starfire at Darkblaze. The spears singed Darkblaze’s skin and broke bones where they impacted. Darkblaze cringed under the onslaught. Two of his legs hung useless and several ribs were fractured. Now Darkblaze coursed golden starfire through his body and fought back.
He tried desperately to spring his shield. The first few attempts didn’t work, but as he felt another silver spear hit his flank, the golden orb sealed itself around him and he was safe, or he thought he was. The moment he stopped focusing on keeping his shield intact, it collapsed. He realized that was his one drawback that the Hundred Year Star had given him. He could destroy, he knew he had the silver starfire as well, but if he used the shield he couldn’t do anything else. Now, he thought, it was time to take a page out of Eclipse’s book.
Darkblaze stopped flying around. He hovered in one spot and retracted his shield. He tried to think of something that made him angry enough to turn his starfire destructive. He saw Eclipse creeping up on Nightpearl, who was frozen in fear by the two black stallions’ fight. Eclipse was about to engulf her in flame, and that did it for Darkblaze.
His eyes narrowed and he hurtled down towards the meadow and rammed Eclipse in the flank. Eclipse fell over from the force of it, and then sneered at the other black foals.
“You’re trying to stop me, puny foal?” he asked jokingly. Darkblaze thought this was weird, because it seemed like they were the same age.
“Yes, I am,” said Darkblaze simply. His hooves started to glow silver. Eclipse saw this and cringed away, but he couldn’t escape because Darkblaze was standing on his wing. Then Darkblaze roared a huge flood of silver fire at Eclipse, the force of it sweeping Eclipse up into the sky, out from under Darkblaze’s hoof. The Destroyer’s wing cracked as he came free, and then all of the crowd could hear Eclipse’s screams from inside Darkblaze’s beam.
Then Darkblaze had an idea. He launched himself into the sky and flew towards Horsetail Falls, carrying Eclipse in his beam ahead of him. He eventually reached Horsetail Falls and landed at the top of the waterfall. He dropped Eclipse into the river.
