“Guys!” Darkblaze whinnied.
The other weanlings turned towards him questioningly.
“There’s a pegasus flying out of the Hundred Year Star!”
“What!?” Sunshadow said incredulously. He looked too. “Well, it seems there is,” he said eventually.
The others were flabbergasted, but they looked and were convinced that there was a black stallion bearing down on them. “Land!” Flamefrost whinnied.
The others quickly followed his lead, flying pell-mell for the devious safety of their parents in the meadow.
As they landed, they ran straight towards their parents and hid behind them. In normal times, they might have been embarrassed by this, but they were terrified. Their parents were also considerably disturbed at the obvious fear on their foals’ faces. The parents didn’t have to wonder why for long. The pegasus that had seemed to be chasing them landed in the meadow, barely ten wing-lengths away.
When Darkblaze worked up the courage to look at the steed around his mother’s body, he was relieved at first glance that the strange pegasus wasn’t black. He also realized it was a mare. It was mostly a very dark gray, like gray rocks while they are wet. This base color was relatively unchanging for the entirety of the mare’s body, but at the shoulder it began to fade abruptly, going from a smoky medium gray at the base of its neck to an extremely pale creamy gray at its throat. However, the head was not this pale color. It was a dark smoky gray, not as dark as the body, but still noticeably dark. This was not the extent of her coat’s features though. The dark gray part of its body was covered in pale silver dapples. On its neck, the dapples and base color switched, the dapples being the dark gray color and the base being a fading shade of gray. The steed’s mane and tail were bright silver. But as stunning as the mare’s body was, it was her face that interested Darkblaze the most. She had a wide blaze topped with a large diamond attached to it. Inside this large blaze was a striking diamond, jet black.
The mare noticed the black weanling’s gaze and nodded to him, not showing surprise that he was black. “Hello,” she said. “My name is Starfall and I know what is happening with the Hundred Year Star.”
