The Stone Quest: Chapter 2
Lukas paced the main room of the group’s headquarters, worried. Where was Elsie? She’d been gone for nearly five hours. What if she'd gotten captured?
All Elsie said was that she was going to check on something, and left. Lukas ran his hand through his light-brown hair anxiously. This was so typical of Elsie. Always acting on impulse and not realising the consequences. Even during the short time he was at Elsie’s school after transerferring, he’d noticed she would talk without thinking and ended conversations abruptly.
After Zladar had attacked and destroyed their town, many of its members went missing save for Lukas, Elsie, and about 30 other people, including a couple of other kids that went to their school.. One of those people somehow had a large underground bunker/house that everyone’s been hiding in.
That was now 4 months ago. They’ve been making weapons and plans to get rid of Zladar, but haven't succeeded so far. All they know is that Zladar was trying to get these magical stones that will give him some sort of power.
Lukas walked into the computer room and saw a head of short dark brown hair sitting at a computer. It was his and Elsie’s friend, Bryce. He was the one who had introduced Lukas and Elsie in the first place. Bryce and Elsie had been next door neighbors and friends for a long time. He was watching one of the area’s near Zladar’s fortress that the adults had set up a hidden camera in. “Have you seen Elsie anywhere?” Lukas asked him.
Bryce looked up. “No, not yet. SHe’s been gone a long time.” He turned back to the screen, then his eyes widened. There was a patch of trees in that area, and it was far enough away from the fortress that not many people came over there. Two figures burst through the patch of trees, and one of them was limping.
Lukas felt his heart drop. Even though it was night and there weren’t any lights there were very dim, there was no mistaking the moonlight reflecting off of Elsie’s bright red hair. Why was she limping? Lukas groaned. “Of course she went to Zladar’s fortress. Only Elsie would do something THAT stupid.” He said. Elsie and the other person left the camera’s view, and Bryce stood up.
“We should tell Aaron so he can open the doors.” Bryce said. Aaron was the one who owned the hideout.
Lukas nodded and the two boys left to get Aaron.

Elsie’s heart was racing as she sprinted away from Zladar’s fortress as fast as she could. Not being the best at coordination, she stumbled over rocks, sticks, and her own feet. Her injured leg didn't help much either. Zach had shown her the alternate exit from the ventilation tunnels and was now running in front of her. The guards were chasing after them, shooting their crossbows.
“Where’s the entrance to the hideout?” Zach called back to her.
Elsie sped up, not wanting guards to hear. She got close enough that they were out of earshot.
“Straight ahead, turn to the right at the willow tree;” She gasped for air, her lungs beginning to feel tight with exhaustion. “There’s a slight hill hidden by a tree. Go behind the tree and there’s a door. Wait there.” She said while gasping, her dark brown eyes wide.
Her breathing was fast and heavy and her nerves were high, driving her forward to the point of exhaustion. Something hit her, and Elsie stumbled forward, nearly falling on her face. She let out a strangled cry. “AaH!” Another arrow had hit her right leg, piercing it just above the knee. It felt like ten bee stings, numb and throbbing. Blood ran down her leg.
SHe threw out her arms just before hitting the ground. She felt a sharp pain in her left wrist and heard a slight crack. That is so not good…. SHe thought. SHe pushed herself up, biting down on her tongue to keep from crying out in pain. It started to bleed. She glanced behind her shoulder nervously. The guards were gaining on her. She took off at a run, almost falling over again as her right leg nearly gave out. She could feel the blood soaking her black sweatshirt from the first arrow wound.
Zach was standing near the hidden door to the hideout, looking around anxiously. Elsie began to feel faint as she neared the entrance to the bunker. She looked behind her shoulder and the guards were no longer there. SHe ducked behind the large tree and stopped running when she reached the door.
“This is it?” Zach asked.
Elsie nodded, unable to say anything. She felt more and more lightheaded with every passing second. SHe knocked on the door three times, waited for five seconds, then knocked on it again 4 times. It was the special signal that it was one of the group and not someone working for Zladar. The last thing she saw was the door opening as her vision turned black.
Hope you liked it!!!! Again, constructive criticism welcomed and kinda needed XD
idk why the line spacing is like that, and I have absolutely NO IDEA how to fix it XD
Nice! Not sure if I have anything to critique.
