Starfrost was nervous. Skydawn had said she'd be here, but she wasn't. Starfrost half believed that the whole thing with the mental communication was just his nerves. He almost thought that he had imagined the two weanlings. Except for one thing. Skydawn had seemed so real and vital to him. He couldn't have imagined the filly.
"Sorry I'm late," Skydawn said as she dropped to the grass beside him. "I couldn't escape Bumblestar until he went to sleep." Starfrost couldn't keep his eyes of her bronze hide, glowing in the light of the moon.
He realized Skydawn was watching, and said hastily, "Bumblestar?"
Skydawn folded her magenta wings. "Star and Morningleaf's colt. My foster brother." She winced.
Starfrost looked at her in astonishment. "You're an orphan?" Inside he was thinking about the lively palomino colt he had seen.
Skydawn nodded. "Yes." Suddenly she stared into the night, alarmed. Someone's coming! Meet me tomorrow! She vanished.
