THROUGH THUNDERSTORMS
The wind was howling silently but steadily as a light paint gray mare flinched her ears towards the trumpeting of stallions. A bit spooked on what was happening she flared her teal and yellow wings as she stampeded into the sky, wanting to know what was going on. She looked below her dangling hooves, seeing her beloved Anok. Her ears pricked, there was the sound again, she angled her feathers towards the noise, as she reached a clearing her tense muscles relaxed. There below her were three stallions, all varying in size. The tallest, a bay stallion with red tipped teal wings, by the name of Thunderheart looked up nickering lightheartedly
“Skypetal! There you are, we started to think you would not show up!” with a clean movement of her wings Skypetal landed near the stallions. She glanced at a smaller dapple gray stallion by the name of Rebelstar, his big sky blue eyes looking at her with kindness. Realizing she was staring, Skypetal quickly looked down at her hooves and the yellow flowers below her. Things had been awkward with Rebelstar ever since Lovesong choose Polarflare over him.
“ Well can we go now?!” whinnied the third stallion
"Yes, Bumblewind we can.” Rebelstar sighed/answered, deeply in thought. Thunderheart nodded, galloping into the sky to create a wake for them. Once in the clouds, Skypetal inched closer to the Rebelstar, worried.
“You know you can tell me anything right?” she said, flying closer to him. Rebelstar did not say anything but looked at her, almost smiling, then returned his gaze forward. Skypetal followed his gaze knowing it would be a long flight. Three days earlier Bumblewind asked Skypetal and Thunderheart to help him search for the legendary past over stallion Thundersky. Rumor spread that Thundersky never died when Nightwing blew his silverfire on him; when a scout found a nest in the middle of a forest covered in the same huge crimson red feathers with a musty scent of a stallion. Once Bumblewind heard this he was determined to find Thundersky for Morningleaf. Skypetal remembered how excited both stallions were when she agreed to go with them, but only one one condition was that they brought Rebelstar too.
“There is a storm coming!” Brayed Thunderheart, bringing Skypetal back to the present. She looked up at the clouds above her now a dark shade of gray. The four pegasi flattened their necks and pinned their ears to fight against the wind that was continuing to get stronger. Then suddenly lightning struck in front of the group, spooking them. “We need to take shelter, once the storm calms down he can continue” Thunderheart ordered as they started to land.

Skypetal was shivering uncontrollably, even though they were tucked away in a cave she felt like she was frozen. She curled up in a tight ball with her wings covering her face and most of her body when she felt a warm body next to her. She peaked through her feathers to see who it was and smiled when it was Rebelstar, one of his large blue wings covering her shivering body. He looked down smiling.
Later the following day Skypetal woke up to the excited whinnies of Bumblewind, she lifted her head, ears pricked. “What is it Bumblewind?” she asked, yawning.
The pinto stallion moved his elegant head slowly to Skypetal.
“Well it seems that with the storm, we became off course….”
“So you mean now we have to fly even longer? Why is that exciting?!” snorted Rebelstar who rose to his hooves.
“Because, While you two love birds were sleeping, Thunderheart scouted the area…”
“And!” Rebelsta brayed
“WOULD YOU STOP INTERRUPTING ME! If I could just speak, you will know why!” Bumblewind exclaimed, his ears pinned tightly against his head. Skypetal tensed, wanting to calm the two stallions down before they started to fight. However Rebelstar relaxed, letting Bumblewind speak. “As I was saying Thunderheart informed me that we went off course by a significant amount, however if we alter our course, instead of a four day flight we will be at the site in two days if the weather forbids.” Skypetal rattled her feathers in excitement. Suddenly she heard a braying sound as Thunderheart galloped into the cave, skidding to stop right before he would have ran into them.
“We need to get started now! Before another storm hits,” he whinnied. The others followed him into the sky. The next day passed without any incident. Skypetal’s eyes widened with excitement as she spotted Sun Herd’s old territory. The group landed in a small forest to graze and drink. Bumblewind and thunderheart wandered towards some tall grass. However Skypetal did not follow them, her ears pricked and her eyes wide with wonder, This was Star the Great Healer’s birthland! She thought as she pictured the great black stallion as a young pegasus not able to fly. A nudge startled her out of daydreaming as she flared her wings ready to fight if need be.
“I’m sorry,” Rebelstar nickered. “I didn't mean to startle you,” Skypetal relaxed, recognizing the voice as she turned around, facing the stallion. Rebelstar looked down and his eyes told a sad story of love and betrayal. Skypetal nuzzled him, trying to comfort the broken stallion.
The two pegasi stood there for a while not speaking, Skypetal kept her gray slender head close to Rebelstar as he blessed a wing over her back. Thunderheart trumpeted an alarm followed by Bumblewind’s below, Skypetal jolted her head up as Rebelstar flew a few wing lengths into the sky. Skypetal only became more spooked as she watched Rebelstar;s face painter with terror. He bolted towards the direction where Thunderheart and Bublewind were, Skypetal closely following.
“What’s happening!?” her voice rising to her throat. The three stallions stood sided by side, feathers rattling. A twig snapped causing an eerie sound as it fell onto Rebelstar’s back. Every muscle in the stallion’s body tensed and Skypetal could tell that it took everything in the stallion's willpower not to spook. Skypetal looked up and noticed a figure standing in the trees, at first she thought it was a mountain lion but her instincts told her otherwise. It was only when the figure unfurled what looked to be wings, when Skypetal noticed it was a pegasus. She nudged Rebelstar with her wing, not taking her eyes off the pegasi in the trees. Thunderheart saw him too,
“Come down where we can see you!” he brayed, authority ringing in tone. Skypetal marveled as she realized the pegasus was standing on footholds but what made her balk was the pegasus’s voice.
“You have no authority here colt, the pegasus rasped. Bumblewind’s wings vibrated both excited as well as nervous. The pegasus dived down off his perch into the shadows, its eyes gleaming. Slowly he stepped out of the shadows, revealing a tall slender bay stallion, his wings were a musty brown color with hints of crimson. “So why do you come to my territory?!” bugled the stallion.
“We are searching for Thundersky, sire of Morningcloud” Skypetal answered the stranger. The stallion's eyes widened in fear, surprising her. “Do you know him by any chance?” Skypetal asked.
The stallion flared his mighty wings, “Of course I know the stallion, You found him,” Thundersky answered.
To be continued…..
(idk why i just said that lol)
yay!
Thankyou so much, and really?
hehe and unintentionally you captured three of her traits really well: her bravery, her compassion, and her love of history and the legends
cool!
