Recap: Cliffwing caught three pegasi freeing prisoners from the cliff caves where they were being held. He called a meeting and accused them of being traitors. Lakeberry, Starmist’s mother, was one of them. The other two were Bluemist and Icefire. Cliffwing grounded them for life. Starmist saw Ambercloud signaling her to come with her into the forest. Starmist followed Ambercloud into the woods. After a while, they stopped. They were in a clearing surrounded by thick undergrowth and tall oaks and pines. Ambercloud came over to Starmist. “I’m sorry you had to see that,” she said. “Lakeberry and the others are here. Bluemist is giving them something for the pain.” Then, addressing all the gathered pegasi, she said, “We must get rid of Cliffwing!” Seastorm stepped forward. “But Cliffwing is the overstallion, how can we get rid of him?” “By supporting a new overstallion,” responded Ambercloud. Out of the trees came a palomino appaloosa stallion. Oakflight and Seastorm clearly recognized him, but Starmist didn’t. Ambercloud introduced him as Sunheart. Oh! Starmist thought. They’re in love! Sunheart had his wing over Ambercloud’s back and she leaned into him as they described how they would take down Cliffwing. Ashtree brought Starmist to where her mother was lying on a carpet of moss. Lakeberry whispered, “I had to free them. They were imprisoned unfairly.” “I know, and I agree,” said Starmist. “I promise I will do my best to help Sunheart and Ambercloud.” She refocused on Ambercloud as she described a surprise attack plan. It was a smart one, and Sunheart started organizing the pegasi into groups. Starmist, Ashtree, Oakflight, and Seastorm were in the same group, a small group that would be a stealth team. “Four full moons from tonight, we attack!’ Sunheart said. “I swear on the Hundred Year Star I will be a good overstallion to Lake Herd.” The gathered pegasi cheered as loudly as they dared. Then they went back to the herd before they were missed.
