As they approached the Elders, Whisperfrost almost immediately spotted Sparkleblossom. "There she is." She mumbled, nodding toward the filly who was preening her feathers. Alderflare couldn't help but stare. Whisperfrost wasn't joking-she really was pretty. Alderflare shook his head, breaking the spell.
Whisperfrost smiled and led him toward the elders who had began to tell a myth about the jet streams. As Whisperfrost listened, she felt Sparkleblossom's eyes piercing into her soul. "Alderflare, she's coming over here..." Whisperfrost whispered. As sure enough, Sparkleblossom's piercing eyes spotted her prey. The filly smirked and sauntered over to Whisperfrost.
Whisperfrost crouched and was soon face to face with Sparkleblossom. "Hello, Whisperfrost! It's so good to see you again!" Sparkleblossom said in her sassy and sarcastic voice. She looked at Alderflare with her green eyes and smiled sweetly. "And who is this?" Sparkleblossom said, batting her eyelashes at him. Alderflare felt his heart beat out of his chest. "Hello, handsome! You must be that new colt that Daddy brought here! Oh my...." Sparkleblossom flirted, flapping her colorful wings and walked in a circle around him, pushing Whisperfrost out of the way. "What's your name, handsome?" She asked, moving to stand next to him, as Whisperfrost watched with her mouth gaping open. "I'm Alderflare. Nice to meet you." He said, trying to restrain himself from staring into her eyes. "Alderflare? What a handsome name for such a handsome colt! Now tell me, how did someone like you end up with someone like Blindfrost!"
Blindfrost was the terrible nickname Sparkleblossom made up for Whisperfrost. Theater colts and fillies caught on with the nickname and taunted her with the nickname. That was enough to break the spell she had on him. "Excuse me?" Alderflare asked, shocked. "You heard me, Alderflare. How did someone as handsome has you end up with someone as ugly as her?!" Sparkleblossom tossed her mane, sending the smell of flowers in his direction. By now, Whisperfrost's forelock was laying over her blind eye and she was close to tears. Alderflare glanced at Whisperfrost and saw the distress that she was in and he pinned his ears. "Why would you say something like that?" He said, trying to ignore the flower perfume. "I'm just stating facts." Sparkleblossom whispered, sliding closer to him. "Why don't you stop hanging around with Blindfrost and start to hang around with me?" she whispered into his ear as she pushed her muzzle underneath his cheek. Alderflare tensed and his eyes went wide. He glanced down at Whisperfrost who watched the interaction with a look of betrayal. With her head low and tears falling freely down her face, she walked away from Alderflare, feeling alone.
Alderflare watched as Whisperfrost walked away from him. "Whisperfrost...I told her I wouldn't get hypnotized by this filly....I have to set things right...." He pinned his ears and used his good wing to push Sparkleblossom away from him. She tumbled to the ground in a blurry of gold and pink. Alderflare snorted and stamped his hoof. "I am no one's pet. And you can't treat Whisperfrost like that." He sneered and he tuned away from Sparkleblossom who was regaining her footing.
He left Sparkleblossom and trotted toward Whisperfrost. He nudged one of her wings with his good one.. "What do you want?" she snapped, whirling around to face him. Alderflare saw that she was hurt and his ears drooped, "I'm sorry, Whisperfrost. I didn't mean for any of that to happen." He apologized. Whisperfrost smiled up at him and wiped her tears away with her wing. "It's okay. But, do you see what I mean when I say that she's rude and spoiled?" Alderflare nodded vigorously and Whisperfrost nickered and folded her wings and Alderflare folded one of his wings, while the longer one draped on the ground. They heard a scream and turned to see Sparkleblossom backing away from Alderflare. "You're....you're a.....you're a DUD?!!??" she cried, then gagged. "EEEWWWW!!!!!!!!! DADDY!!!!!! THE DUD TOUCHED ME!!!!!! I PROBABLY HAVE A DISEASE NOW!!!!!!!" She screamed, running away to the far side of the meadow. Alderflare snickered and Whisperfrost eye's were bright. They now had attracted the attention of the gathered foals. Each foal was looking back at them with a shocked and confused expression. Whisperfrost gasped and shrank away from the eyes watching them.
Alderflare stepped forward. "Yeah! That's right!!! I got cooties!! And if you want to get infected by my 'disease' you better leave me and my friend alone!" he snapped. He bit his tongue to keep from smirking.
At his words, all the foals snapped their head back forward to continue listening to the legend.
Alderflare helped Whisperfrost to stand up straighter. "I guess that's one way to keep anyone from bulling you." Whisperfrost nickered. Alderflare nickered as well and turned his attention back to the story.
