I don't think I'm the only one on here that has wondered about what era the books are set in. But because the series takes place in mostly a fantasy setting, one without much modernization, it is relatively difficult to pin point an approximate year. Well, this was something that I've been curious about for a wile, and so, when I was lying in bed one night for some reason I remembered the Nightwing short story in the back of Stormbound. And realized that the answer to salving the mystery was most likely in there. So the next morning I opened up my copy and started reading. Sure enough, I found a clues that seemed to be putting me on the right track, so after a quick google search this is what I found:
Nightwing uses the term 'zoo' repeatedly when he recalls his time spent locked up by the landwalkers. The first zoo to be called a zoo was established in 1826.
That means, the absolute earliest the books can be set in would be 2226, considering that Nightwing hibernated 400 years shortly after his escape. So yes, that means TGH could be an omen for the future.
Good theory, but I think TGH world is in a whole universe and has nothing to do with our earth.
Omgoodness. lol I think I agree with Flamefrost. Actually, Zoo is just short for zoological study. Granted, it was first printed around 1847... However, Zoo's date back quite far.
Unless, there was a war and it ultimately destroyed everything. However, that doesn't make much sense either... I mean there could have been an alien invasion and the alien's set earth back to a different state.. haahh
Echo, here:
I have no words....
If i had that emoji that has their mind exploding, I would literally just put it right here in a comment and nothing else. But I don't have it, so I'll just do this:
[insert said emoji here]
You’re right! My mind is blown! And I agree with Dragon as well, although Flamefrost’s theories are also very possible.
That is COOL! I'm agreeing with Dragon
Whoa!! I‘m gonna have to agree with Dragon here. I believe it’s set in the future also, but this is awesome!!!!!
XD
I do have to say that if this means that pegasi are going to come flying over our heads in eight or nine years, I'm happy. I want to get Starfrost.
Mind Blown!!!!!!
AAAAAGGGGHHHHHHHH
You do realize that, while these are great findings, Jennifer lives in the present day. Even if "zoo"s as such didn't exist, as a modern author she may have used that word to save confusion with whatever came before zoos: crates, compartments, jails, etc.
Personally, I think is set on another Goldilocks planet somewhere that is not Earth, set anytime but without our technological advances on Earth– besides starfire, which I guess isn't really technology.
