Patchfeather tried get up, but a wave of pain shot through her body forcing her to lie back down.
"Calm down Patchfeather, Dragonfrost is here, but..." Pineberry's voice trailed off.
"But what? How badly is he hurt?" demanded Patchfeather
"One of his wings is broken, it's not a bad break, should heal in a few weeks. But Patchfeather...if he doesn't wake up..."
Pineberry didn't need to finish her sentence. Patchfeather remembered about a year ago a colt named Stormray, had gone flying on his own, a strong wind came up blew him into a tree. When the search party found him, Stormray was unconscious, he died a few days latter.
Patchfeather craned her neck so she could see Dragonfrost, he was lying peacefully in a bed of moss. Pineberry must have tied sticks to his wing so they would heal correctly, other then that he looked like he was just sleeping.
"How long have I been out?" asked Patchfeather.
"About three days." said Pineberry. "Patchfeather, I'm going to change out the herbs I put on your cuts, I need you to hold still, it may sting a little."
As Pineberry cleaned all the old herbs out of cuts, and put new ones on, Patchfeather glanced around the small cave Pineberry used during the winter months to treat sick and injured pegasi.
Patchfeather was surprised to see Sunnyglow sleeping on a pile of moss off to one side, her belly round with Coldfire's foal.
"Why's Sunnyglow here?" asked Patchfeather worried.
Pineberry stopped applying the new herbs to one of the deepest cuts, to turn and look at Sunnyglow, "She started having really bad nightmares, the night we brought you and Dragonfrost back. I guess this reminds her of what happened when she lost Whitesnow."
Pineberry went back to applying herbs.
Patchfeather hoped if Sunnyglow wasn't right, and if she was.....Patchfeather didn't want to think about it.
