The next few days were the same, wake up, look for signs of Mountain Herd activity, then sleep. And the whole time Patchfeather was thinking about Coldfire.

A few days ago if Patchfeather had heard of a bear attack she would have instantly blamed Coldfire, but now she wasn't so sure. Why would Coldfire risk his own life and the lives of the pegasi under his command? Why would Coldfire jeopardize the mission he was leading? And what was his motivation?

These questions kept bothering Patchfeather so much, they were the only thing she could think about. The other steeds on the team started to worry about her, they let her stay in the back of the group wile they were flying, let her eat the best moss, and didn't make her take a shift watching for predators at night.

Patchfeather was grateful for there concern, but she told them every time they tried to baby her she was fine. But everyone on the team kept on babying her, except Beanwind.

This when on for days, then finally four days after the bear attack, Aspenflight spotted some bright colored feathers near a stream. So the group landed to investigate.

Feathers covered both sides of the stream, "Looks like there was a fight here." commented Flameberry.

"Yeah, but there's no blood, just feathers." said Aspenflight.

Beanwind sniffed one of the feathers, "Diffidently smells like Mountain Herd." he said.

"We need to get word to Icewing eminently," said Coldfire, "Beanwind, are you ready?"

"Well actually I was thinking Patchfeather could do it." said Beanwind.

Everyone stared at him, even Patchfeather. "Beanwind, I don't think that's a good idea." said Lightfall

"Why not, I think she's ready for her first solo mission." said Beanwind

"I don't think I am." said Patchfeather.

"Well you are," retorted Beanwind, "Look most of the members of 'Legends in the Making' went on their first solo mission when we were way younger then her."

"Beanwind you know why we think this is a bad idea, and it has nothing to do with her age." said Aspenflight.

Beanwind sighed, "Stormender made me leader of all the 'Legends on the Making' messengers, so I order Patchfeather to deliver the message to Icewing."

Patchfeather could see Coldfire didn't like it but he agreed, so she flew back in the was the team had come.
