Tails of Snow Herd: Chapter 17: Legends in the Making

    in HERD CHAT

The whole way back to the clearing Patchfeather thought about what Dragonfrost had said. Dragonfrost was not a killer, and Patchfeather wondered if he really meant to kill Coldfire if something happened to her on the mission.

When Patchfeather arrived in the clearing Beanwind was the only steed there, probably because he had never left the clearing in the first place.

Beanwind was legendary in Snow Herd. Both his parents had been banished from different herds at different times. No one knew how they met, but according to Beanwind they had lived to gather a long time before he was born. Shortly after Beanwind and his twin sister Pokeshadow were born, their mother died, and the twins father disappeared.

Beanwind and Pokeshadow had some how managed to survive in the vein for weeks, before a they encountered a banished Mountain herd under-stallion named Thornbreeze. He seamed nice enough at first, he helped the twins find food and protected them from pretenders. Beanwind and Pokeshadow lived with him for almost year, before Beanwind realized That Thornbreeze was planning to kill them.

Thornbreeze had some old grudge against the foals parents, and was waiting for the foals to become yearlings, train them to fight, and challenge them to fight. Beanwind had tried to warn his sister, but Pokeshadow wouldn't listen to him. A few days later Beanwind had woken up in the middle of the night, he saw Pokeshadow and Thornbreeze were missing, he slipped through the woods until he found them. But it was already to late, Beanwind watched as Thornbreeze killed his sister. Beanwind fled and was picked up by a Snow Herd patrol the next day.

Patchfeather realized she must have been staring at Beanwind, because he said, "You look a little young to be a battle mare."

"I'm not really a battle mare," admitted Patchfeather, "I have only been to a few training sessions ."

    "Figures." muttered Beanwind.

"What's that supposed to mean?" asked Patchfeather, slightly annoyed.

Beanwind rolled his eyes, "Coldfire didn't tell you?"

Patchfeather stared at him, "Tell me what?"

"Great." Beanwind muttered, then he said in a louder voice, "Have you ever heard the term 'Legends in the making' used by any high ranking steed in Snow Herd?"

Patchfeather looked at him confused, "No, why?"

"'Legends in the making' is a code phrase used for a secret team of elite pegasi in Snow Herds army, apparently they think you have what takes to be on the team."

Patchfeather just stared at Beanwind in shock, as he continued, "I'm on the team, and so is all the pegasi on this mission, well except Coldfire. 'Legends in the making is led by Stormender, have you ever herd of him?"

Patchfeather was still to shocked to speak, but she managed to get out "N-no, I don't think so."

Beanwind smirked, "That's because Stormender is a secret, he can beat anyone in battle, not by brute force, but by shear cunning."

Patchfeather heard a thud, like a pegasus landing be hind her, she turned and saw a Flea-bitten gray mare with light gray wings tipped with dark red and a steel gray stallion with dark green wings. Patchfeather recognized the mare as Aspenflight, and the stallion as Smokeleaf.

Aspenflight went over to Beanwind and nuzzled his shoulder, Patchfeather remembered that Beanwind and Aspenflight were mates.

"Thanks for filling the rookie in on everything, Coldfire sent me to do that." said Aspenflight.

    "Your welcome." said Beanwind.

One by one, over the next several minuets the rest of the team arrived, eight pegasi in total. When they were all there Coldfire gave the order to move out.

No actually Beanwind was named after a character from my favorite book, his name is Bean. Though the weird thing is Bean's real name is Julian Jr.
