A beautiful red roan mare stood in the golden grass alone, her mane and tail blowing softly as she folded her wings on her back. Her mate and her only child… she hoped they were well. She closed her eyes and breathed in the soft air, as her story began to tell itself.
The mare laid with a stallion in the grass. New Anok was beautiful, but not their home. She watched sparks of fire dance across the grass as the stallion helped put out any fire that sparked. The mare giggled as she held onto her stomach. She nuzzled the shadow stallion, and sighed happily. This life was perfect, as long as nobody found out about their hybrid child. She smiled and leaned against the stallion, and the scene shifted.
Years later as she birthed her beautiful colt, the overstallions of shadow and fire herd found out about their forbidden love. At the time, the penalty of hybrid love was death, so she closed her eyes as she took the penalty head on. What she wasn’t expecting, was her mate to grab her child’s flight feathers, and fly away quickly, leaving her and her baby to suffer the consequences. The mare swallowed, until there was nothing.
She waited decades for her mate to join her and her foal, but he never showed… until one day, her foal disappeared from the Golden meadow. She whinnied in confusion as he became nothing… she didn’t understand at the time, but now she did.
