"What was that?" Wispiflower asked. "I dont know," Riverbreeze shrugged. Twigs snapped, as if something heavy was crunching them. "Quick!" Stormpebble and Starbrook whisked the fillies into some nearby bushes. Horizonfire and Echomoon waited in the trees above, looking while well hidden. It had been the fillies' foalhood dream to spy. Perhaps now they could do some quick training while staying out of danger. "RRRRR!!" The roar came again, but was muffled. Rainblaze gasped and slapped her wing over her mouth. That roar sounded like an Over-Stallion's whinny. It was a pegasus! Echomoon and Horizonfire watched as grey feathers swept into view, followed by two pegasi. "Where are they?" The male whirled around to face the female. The female pegasus trembled. "Please, Stormwing, we have it under control." Horizonfire gasped silently. Stormwing! They should've known. Stormwing had been an old friend of Rainwing, but the they chose separate paths and they grew apart. Then the tides turned completely. When Rainwing had made battle plans with Stormwing to attack Battle Herd, Bloodwing, the vicious Over-Stallion of Battle Herd, had offered him a pact: give him the battle plans, and in return Stormwing could have rights to a large water hole in Battle Herd's area, since Night Herd was outgrowing their territory and their lake had dried up, thanks to a drought. So Stormwing betray Rainwing, and Rainwing lost the battle to Bloodwing. In return, Stormwing had the water hole rights as promised, but had them taken away in less than a week. Stormwing begged Rainwing for forgiveness, but Rainwing, like all Over-Stallions, was the grudging type, so he never forgave Stormwing. Stormwing turned bitter, and they were sworn enemies ever since. "I don't care. I need them now!" Stormwing snorted. "Mosscloud, I don't have time for search parties. Tear Herd must've taken them." He pawed the ground in annoyance. "Captains!" Stormwing trumpeted for his captains. "Why is he so close to our border?" Echomoon asked. "He knows if he crosses it, Tear Herd has the right to declare war, or tear him apart." Horizonfire added. Stormpebble shrugged her wings. "Beats me," Riverbreeze whispered. "Now shh," Starbrook shushed them. Twenty captains flew and landed in front of their Over-Stallion. "Sir," they bowed. "I have battle plans. We attack Tear Herd at midnight, when they're sleeping." Stormwing snorted. "But, don't they have patrols? We could be spotted," one if the captains asked. Stormwing reared and clubbed the stallion in the chest, knocking him down. "Make sure that doesn't happen!" He growled. The stallion wheezed, and the fillies realized that he was bleeding. The stallion had winded him by clubbing him with shatpened hooves in the lungs. Rainblaze prayed to the Ancestors that his lungs hadn't collapsed all together. "Yes, sir." The stallion wheezed, getting back up and coughing blood. "Gather your patrols." Stormwing growled at the others. They nodded hastily and flew off. He turned to his mate, Mosscloud. "Gather the battle mares, feed them, make sure they're in good condition." He ordered. "Yes, sir," Mosscloud dipped her head and galloped off. And with that, Stormwing flapped his wings and lifted off, his white body slipping between the mist, leaving behind one grey feather. The fillies were speechless. They had to warn the Herd. They looked to the stars. "Please don't let us be too late," they prayed.
