:Chapter 2: Dark Water
Blaze flapped his mighty wings as he flew through the endless golden sky, his feathers gleaming in The sunlight. His mane and tail flowed gently behind him, seeming like hypnotic wave that endless flowed.
Blaze raised his head to the warm breeze, feeling it soak into his fur and feathers. He took a deep breath and exhaled the fresh breeze. ‘Now this, is flying’.
Blaze felt his wings extend and stretch out on either side, his feathers grazing the fluffy white clouds. He thought he could feel their cold mist for a moment.
Blaze sighed with content, listening to the soft sound of the wind rush by his ears.
Suddenly, Blaze felt something….strange, like something was tightening around his waist. He ignored it at first, but then his wings were suddenly pulled and pinned to his sides.
Blaze began to panic, trying as hard as he could to extend his wings, but they wouldn't budge, it's like they were glued to his sides.
Without his wings to hold him up, he began to fall through the golden sky, he screamed as he fell, the white clouds rushing by him.
The golden sky suddenly turned grey and black, thunder clapped, lightning sparked, and rain shot down…
Blaze’s eyes flew open, feeling the sudden cold droplets of rain on his face, and the rush of wind. He heard thunder boom overhead, and saw the lightning sparking in the distance.
He suddenly felt the tight feeling again, and turned his head. There he saw a rope wrapped around his wings, and from the corner of his eye, he saw the ground below him. He went to whinny out of panic, but couldn't. His jaw was pinned shut by another rope.
His ears twitched as he heard sudden wing beats on either side of him. He looked up, and saw two Kihlari. One bay with dark green wings, and one dapple grey with silver wings.
Blaze’s eyes narrowed as he recognized the bay stallion as Revenge, the Kihlari that belongs to the orange haired boy, who happened to be sitting on his back.
“Zack, why are we doing this again? It seems pretty dark…” The dapple greys rider spoke, his black hair soaked from the rain.
The boy, by the name of Zack, turned his head to him, “We’re doing this, because Aniya can't win races without her precious whittle Blaze” Zack said darkly, ending his sentence with a babyish tone.
Blaze’s heart skipped with fear as Zack looked down at him, “Oh goody! He's awake, this should be fun”.
Blaze narrowed his eyes at Zack, ‘What are you planning to do with me?!’ He wanted to shout.
As if reading his mind, Revenge clenched his eyes shut with what looked like sorrow to Blaze. He flattened his ears, a look of worry growing on his face. His gut twisted with fear, ‘What….Is he going to do with me?’.
The two Kihlari suddenly shot up into the thunder clouds, rain smacking against them as they gained altitude.
As they broke through the first cloud layer, the mist and the rain sent a shocking chill throughout Blaze's body. Then the rain ceased as they flew above the clouds.
The dark thunder clouds around them looked like a kingdom of darkness that threatened to swallow them, and flashed with lightning every ten seconds.
Blaze feared that they were trying to get him struck by lightning, or probably freeze him to death. But he had a feeling there was something worse that Zack had in store for him.
They flew for a long time before they stopped, thunder rumbling.
“Alright, cut the ropes” Zack said to the other rider. The boy nodded hesitantly and reached into his back pocket, as did Zach. They both pulled out a dagger wrapped with leather on one end, it sparkled and gleamed in the lightning.
Blaze's eyes widened with panic as he realized what they were doing, ‘Their going to let me fall!!’. He whinnied in distress through the ropes tied around his muzzle and struggle against the ropes, trying to break free. “Quick! Cut it!” Zack shouted, slicing the rope on his side that held Blaze up.
Blaze began thrashing back and forth, hoping to get one of the ropes loose, or even better, off. But as he continued to struggle, he could hear the ropes being cut away, and snapping.
‘This can't be happening this can't be happening THIS CAN'T BE HAPPENING!!!’ He thought with panic. One by one he could hear and feel the ropes snap.
The sudden clap of thunder sent Blaze's heart into fear, it pounded in his chest so hard that he thought it was going to explode. ‘I have to get out of here, I have to get back to Aniya! I have to-’.
Suddenly, the boys cut their last rope.
Blaze felt the rush of wind against his belly as he began to fall through the sky. His body began flipping head of heels. He screamed through the rope as he fell.
The sudden feeling of raindrops poured on him suddenly, and the clash of thunder range in his ears, it was followed by the sound of crashing waves.
‘Waves!?’. Blaze strained to see what he was falling towards, his eyes catching only glimpses of the body of water below him. They widened when he saw black water rushing at him.
He had heard of this section of the sea from the elder Kihlari. They said that it was called the Dark Waters. Blaze had never like the scary stories of the sea. All the creatures that lurked under the darkness terrified him. He sometimes had nightmares about being in the black water, being eaten by monsters. And now, he was heading straight for the Dark Water, without his wings! It was exactly like one of his nightmares, except it was real.
Blaze whinnied and pushed against the ropes tied around his wings, hoping that he could break the rope before he hit the water. But with each heartbeat the water came closer.
Blaze suddenly felt the rope give slightly and felt a glimmer of hope. He pushed harder, with each passing moment the rope gave in.
The water came closer, its thrashing waves sounding like a monster wanting to swallow him whole.
At the last second, just as the water was about to smack into Blaze, the rope snapped.
Blaze reacted and spread his wings, catching the violent wind current. His hooves skimmed the water ever so slightly as he flew over the surface. The rain soaked his mane and wings as he flew through the raging sea storm.
He tried to turn around and head back for home, but the current was pushing him a different way, pushing him away from home. He tried to fight it, flapping his wings madly, but yet, he was still carried out into the sea.
Knowing that he was wasting his energy with hopeless effort, he stopped fighting and let the current carry him, gliding over the roaring waves. His heart filled with sorrow as the wind took him farther from his warm stall, from his rider, from his life.
He closed his eyes as the wind carried him, hoping, praying, that the tides would turn, and take him back to Mavelyn.
