Hawkwing was massive. His gigantic hooves had light feathering on the ankles, and his plain, large brown pinto body was covered in battle scars. Riverglade scanned the stallion's eyes, looking for any similarity to her father, who was also an overstallion. But Hawkwing's eyes burned with a cruel, power-hungry stare that promised no mercy-the opposite of her father's kind, calm intelligence that showed at the top, with a determined fire beneath to protect his herd and family at all costs.
The overstallion of Plains Herd rattled his feathers, which looked exactly like a hawk's, and spoke. "I see you have the fillies," he nickered evilly, pleased. He looked at the group, searching for a member that wasn't there. "Where is Sablestone?"
"He insisted on staying in Canyon Herd, I tried to convince him to come back," Cloudfire said.
Hawkwing went deathly still. "WHAT?!?!" He outraged. He reared, spreading his wings to their full length, striking the air with his deadly hooves. "If you weren't the best fighter in Plains Herd, I would execute you right here, right now." he threatened Cloudfire.
Lightbreeze cowered, and tried to duck, but the buckskin pinto and liver chestnut stallions holding her still had a grip on her wings. They dug their teeth into her feathers, causing her to squeal in pain. This brought Hawkwing to the attention that he had two stolen fillies in his possession, and he had to sort everything out before Canyon Herd sends an envoy to find them.
He slammed his hooves onto the earth, causing the trees to rattle and shake, and an ear-splittingly loud thud when they made contact with the soil. Lightbreeze cowered and squealed again, while Riverglade held her ground, not letting any emotion or fear show.
The stallion then pranced forward to Cloudfire, so close their foreheads were almost touching. "We will discuss this later," He said, in a deathly still tone.
Then a shadow flew overhead. The pegasus spotted the group, and landed. She was a stunning silver appaloosa mare with black points, a long, wavy, black mane and tail, and light aqua feathers.
Hawkwing pinned his ears at the mare. "Leave, Mooncloud." He said to his mate. "This is a matter that does not concern you."
Mooncloud calmly folded her wings, clearly not afraid of the cruel stallion. She tilted her head, and said simply, "All I see in front of me are two young fillies, one who looks terrified, and the other who looks fairly beat up and bleeding. Any matter concerning foals is immediately the lead mare's concern, and, last time I checked, I am the lead mare. So, actually, Hawkwing, this is a matter that does concern me."
The group was stunned for mere second, but it was the second Riverglade needed. Seizing her moment, she bucked, hard, and tore off into the sky.
