Redwind basked in the afternoon sun with the rest of Storm Herd, thinking about how his life would've been in Anok. He was born in Storm Herd, yes, but he knew the legends of why they moved to this harsh place, because of the one, the only, black foals. The names? Nightwing and Star. Who won was beyond the herd's knowledge, but he had just turned two. He was now a fully fledged pegasus. Everyone hoped Star had won, but absolutely no one knew who had. And Redwind wanted to find out. He decided to venture out of Storm Herd's land. Mavelyn wasn't just Sandwens. There were giant reptiles with webbed wings out there Hazelwind and Echofrost called "Dragons". To top it off, dragons spit poisonous acid. Although Storm Herd were never attacked by one of these nightmares, they had encountered a few. There was an extremely good chance Redwind wouldn't come back in one piece, but this didn't stop him. As he sneaked away from the herd, he thought of how he would find his evidence. Redwind was trapped after all. Maybe there was an untame Sandwen steed that knew something?

A hiss brought Redwind back to reality. He better get moving before he became a Dragon's meal. Redwind surged deeper into the rain forest, each step he took was a death wish. Two days had recently passed. Everything was going smoothly. He had found a lake so clear he could see his own reflection. As perplexing Mavelyn was, the dreadful place had its moments. Though you had to have the eye of the beholder to see. Redwind had camped near the name he had given, 'mirror lakes' for three days. Now, he was ready to find the Sandwens, if they didn't find him first. Then, so suddenly he thought he imagined it, was that hiss. That same hiss. Has this dragon been stalking him since he's left Storm Herd? He was soon over-whelmed with the urge to fly, but the rain forest was so thick his wings couldn't fit between the trees. It reminded him of Jungle Herd. One of the many herds that lived in Anok. Some of the elders were from Jungle Herd and told many tales, but Jungle Herd never had trees so squished together you couldn't fly. Daydreaming, again. I can't find out more about Anok by just thinking of it. He thought, correcting himself to a painful lash of his tail to snap out of it.

Redwind became aware of his surroundings, hearing a low rumble that vibrated in his chest. A chill so frightening scurried up Redwind's spine like a bunch of spider legs making there way to his ears. Slowly, very cautiously he turned, only to see what he expected. A huge, red, acid spitting, dragon. Redwind bleated and something deep inside him awoken that he couldn't control. He bolted blindly, he couldn't die. He wanted to find out- he needed to find out who won. He wanted to live in Anok. He wanted to get out of this place. Redwind ran until his legs gave out. "Maybe it lost me." Redwind said out-loud as he turned around to pride himself. But there the dragon was, right in front of his very eyes. Right. There. Redwind staggered backward, a large tree blocked his way. In a panic, Redwind reared, and that triggered the dragon to spit the fatal acid that even the Sandwens were afraid of. The acid squirted directly into his pupils. Redwind screeched. The acid burned. Searing his eyes and flowed deeper into them. Over-whelmed with the throbbing pain, he began to run, his stamina endless. Hours he ran, all the while his vision a blur. Finally, when Redwind knew the dragon was gone, he sunk to his knees. This burning, unbearable pain grew worse, and worse, then very suddenly, his vision faded, then disappeared.

Redwind awoken from another terrifying dream. But it wasn't a dream, this had happened before, several moons ago, though, it felt like just yesterday. He was lucky to be alive. But to live came a cost. He was blind. Unable to see. When Redwind had lost his sight the rest of his senses had became quite keen. But through his dreadful experiance he became somewhat wise for a young adult his age. Though, his mission was the same; to find out what everyone wondered, was Anok the same beautiful place everyone knew and loved?
