    Mortality CH 1

    in FAN FICTON

Star wobbled over to Morningleaf, his hair was matted and smelled like blood and death. She put her shedding wing over him and helped him up. Tears streaked down her face and left dark brown lines across her face. They curled up together grateful they had survived the final battle.

"You did it Star you did it!" She cried remembering all the steeds who had died to let Star fulfill his destiny.

"Did anyone else die?" He asked looking around.

"Im not sure but please, lets not focus on that." She said crying into his mane.

Something inside him wanted to comfort her, not just as a friend. He wanted to wrap his wings around her and watch as their departed friends danced in the sky as streaks of light. But he looked around. He was getting frantic and worried. Where was Brackentail? Did he die?

He wondered scanning his surroundings from one side to the other, hoping to catch a glimpse of his friends orange color. As if on cue, Brackentail thundered towards them sliding to an abrupt halt and wrapping his wings around his two friends.

"You came back." Star said choking on tears.

"Why of course!" He responded softly, his voice filled with happiness, sadness, and pride.

They waited there for a while, thinking o where they were, where they have been, and where they are going. Morningleaf fell into sleep, curled up next to Star. As did Brackentail, his head resting on Star's back. He looked at Morningleaf, her hair was matted and her coat was dusty and greasy, yet, she looked more beautiful to Star now, than he ever did before. He set his wing above her, contemplating on what to do. He slowly set his wing across her body. He softened moving closer to him. He saw a smile too. Did she love him? In a different way than just friendship? Did he love her the same way?
