Two weeks after the birth of her filly, Dewberry was grazing while Bumbleberry nursed at her side, when a thought hit her like a storm hitting water.
'What if we are attacked? I can't help fight when I have a 2-week-old filly.'
She continued on grazing with the thought lingering in her head, when she heard a very loud whiny that rang out through the whole meadow that the herd was grazing in.
Dewberry stopped grazing and gave Bumbleberry a gentle nudge with her hind leg and together mother and daughter ran as fast as Bumbleberry's little legs would allow, they soon came to a halt near the lead mare of the herd, Morningleaf, who was heavily pregnant and as it turned out, giving birth.
Dewberry whinnied as loud as she could without hurting herself, and the medicine mare, Sweetroot, came running with the over stallion, Star.
