Lightray cut through a layer of clouds, diving down to the ground, going at an extremely fast speed for a 3 day old foal. Though most foals weren't able to fly above the Red Rock Canyons, Smokeray got the Desert Herd over-stallion to allow him to go beyond it from his outstanding flying skills he was forced to show to. Now, he was doing loops and herding flocks of geese like a fully-fledged sky herder. But who said he wanted to be a sky herder? Not Lightray of course. At least his mother was there, but since the beating Lightmist had taken she was afraid of her own mate, and the marking of the club still stuck onto her cheek, she looked abused, beaten. Now, whenever Lightray dared to glance at Lightmist, his heart fell, and didn't stop falling. What a family he had.
"MATCH YOUR WINGS WITH THE CURRENT! It'll be easier to make a perfect loop." And so Lightray did. Another 8 hours of doing this he landed, tired out. It was night once again. Lightray hoped to get some milk today since he hadn't yesterday. When he returned to his little place where his family always rested, but didn't see his mother or father.
"Father sir? Mama?" He heard nothing. He turned around the natural maze of the canyon and heard echoing, but it was coming from all directions, he went deeper and deeper and saw them, they were fighting.
"Your teaching our 3 day old son to ride jetstreams? This is too far!" Lightmist hissed.
"If he makes it out alive, he'll be the best flier in history!" Smokeray snapped, only caring about fame and the over-stallion's approoval.
"OH! I see! So you KNOW that our own son has a chance of dying! And your okay with that!" She yelled
"It's for his own good."
"How, Smokeray? Tell me, how? This isn't healthy for the child, he didn't even get to eat yesterday! You know what harm that can do to a foal's growth? DO YOU KNOW-" She was cut off by Smokeray pulling her mane in close so he could talk to her close. "Listen to me Lightmist. I never wanted a foal, but we had one anyway. And if were going to have a son, he is GOING to be successful in overthrowing this softy over-stallion, do you hear me Lightmist, do you honey?" He rasped in her ears while she fought and squeeled in pain.
"On your knees." He demanded. Lightmist bowed and submitted.
"There you go love." He nickered pulling a chunk of her mane out and walking away. The piece floated to Lightray's muzzle. Lightray's eyes were full of tears. They didn't want him. He ran off back to his spot where they used to all go to and laid down. he didn't sleep that night. And he doubt his mother did either.
