Oscar smiled. "You shouldn't feel sorry about that, either. technically, I didn't tell you I was an orphan either," he laughed. He stared into her eyes, and felt the same strange feeling she was feeling at that moment. He had never felt this, so he brushed it off like it was nothing, and that it was only the foundation of a good friendship, when it would become so much more. Then he looked towards the orphanage and realized the sun had almost set. "Wow, it's really getting late. Time to get you home, right?" He gave her a boyish grin and stood up.
(WAIT ... an orphanage is where orphans live when they're waiting to be adopted, basically, right? That was a rhetorical question. But anyway, what might happen if Oscar convinced Fred to adopt Waverly?)
Waverly shook herself and sat up straight again just before he stood, then stood up as well. âY-Yeah, right.â Waverly attempted to return the grin, but the earlier realization made it very hard to focus on the simple action. She hoped he didnât take it the wrong way as he walked her to the door of the orphanage. âSo... Iâll see you tomorrow at school?â She almost hoped she wouldnât. She needed to process what sheâd discovered about her feelings toward her friend. But if he was there, she wouldnât mind at all. She just wouldnât know how to play it cool, because her lying skills werenât that predictable.
Oscar nodded with confirmation and smiled. âSee ya tomorrow!â He waved goodbye as she shut the door and was down as he walked home. He ran through his mind the list heâd come up with of what the feelings could be. So far, he had;
-Admiration towards her
-Amusement
-Happiness
-Embarrassment
-Confusion
-Affection
Oscar tried to combine these things together, but he couldnât make a feeling out of them. He walked home, completely oblivious to the fact that he Cared for Waverly And that she cared for him. He had never cared for anyone other then his father, Fred. He opened the door and rushed upstairs to his room. He closed the door shut and flopped down onto his bed, grabbed the book he was reading on his bedside table, and read himself to sleep.
He suddenly heard a scream from one of his sisters. He jerked his head up. He couldn't tell if it was in happiness or fear, but he didn't wait long to find out.
Eli quickly stood up, put his guitar on his bed, and slung his door open. He ran into the living room. "What!? What is it? Who screamed!?" he asked, slightly panicked, but he relaxed as he saw Gabby rolling on the floor with laughter. Gabby sighed and managed to point a finger towards the front door where Maddie stood.
Eli smirked and went over to his sister. The front door was wide open and Maddie had a huge grin on her face.
He placed his arm on her shoulder. "Hey, Mads. You finally noticed the snow?"
As if she was completely unaware of her brother, she squealed and pumped her arms in the air. "It's snowing!! It's snowing!!! It's snowing!!" She jumped off the porch and basically dove into the snow. She laid on her back started making a snow angel.
Eli laughed and turned to grab a coat to join her, but Gabby tackled him before he had a chance.
Gabby and Eli tumbled off the front porch into the white powdery snow, laughing. Maddie picked up a snowball and chucked it at Eli. And just like that, a sibling snowball fight was underway.
She bolted upright when she heard screams coming from the triplets next door. She quickly rushed outside with a bat in her hand, and he sister closely following. When Rita quickly realized they were just excited about it snowing, she dropped the bat and sighed with relief. Brianna, on the other hand, joined in on the fun. She plopped down into the snow until she was soaking wet and Rita was sure she had hypothermia. âIâll get our jackets!â She tried to yell over their squeals and laughs of delight.
Rita quickly jumped inside, shivered at the new temperature, and grabbed herâs and Briannaâs Mountain Horse coats. When she gave Brianna her coat, she ran to the triplets house and got Eliâs Maddieâs, and Gabbyâs coats of the hanger. She knew where they were placed because they would go over here and play all the time.
She came back outside and handed each personâs coat to them. She shuddreed into hers last and sat on one of the porchâs, thinking.
Maddie thanked Ria for the coat. "Sorry. I got excited. I've never seen it snow here before, and I've been living here all my life." She said, still smiling broadly. Gabby chuckled and zipped up her coat. Eli smiled at his sisters, then his smile faded as he saw Ria sitting alone on her porch.
He wiped the snow from off his jacket and ginned handsomely.
He waved his hand, motioning for her to come and join them.
~
Salina was at standing in the doorway, her jacket as well, but she had her purse in hand.
The triplets glanced at each other and went to their mother. "Are you going somewhere?" they asked in unison. Salina smiled and kissed each child, "Yes. I'm going to the doctors for an appointment." She said "If you want to stay outside and play, you can, but please don't stay out here too much longer. And, there's hot chocolate in the pantry if Ria and Brianna want to come over and hang out. Be good-I'll be back in an hour." She waved at Brianna and Ria, then piled into her car, pulled out of the Geron driveway, then sped off.
Ria smiled at Eli, then waved goodbye to Mrs. Geron. Her sister mimicked her actions. Brianna perked up when hot chocolate was mentioned. "You guys have hot chocolate?!" She exclaimed. Ria rolled her eyes playfully, hopped off her porch, and sat down in the snow beside Brianna, hands in her pockets.
Waverly slept little that night, too pre-occupied with her discovery from the night before. In the morning, she flew through her chores in a daze. They seemed to go by too fast. Then she got a brief glimpse out a window, and stopped short,, running back to get a better look. âOh, snow day!â she said, sighing with relief. Disappointment overtook the relief in a second, though. Seeing Oscar wouldnât have been so bad. Just a little awkward on her part. But over all, it would have been really great. Now she might not see him until Friday, or even Monday if the snow wasnât cleared. Then she remembered.... âOh! Wait...â On Tuesday, Oscar had given her his phone number. She could call or text him about meeting up for hot cocoa or something. She proceeded to do so immediately, deciding to text him instead of calling. Hey Oscar, wanna meet up for a hot chocolate? My treat, unless you have some at your house.
Maddie smiled, her eyes welcoming. "Yeah! Come on!" she giggled and ran to her front porch with her siblings in hot pursuit.
Maddie got down 5 mugs and started to make to hot coco. Around 10 minutes later, it was finished and she lastly plopped some marshmallows on to top. Maddie handed out the coco to each person then sat down in the living room and switched on the TV.
Brianna immediately shoed her nose into the cup and drank. Then she sighed when she was done with her sip, and went cross eyed to look at the thing on her nose. She had apparently gotten hot chocolate all over it. She laughed and went to grab a napkin to wipe up the mess on her face. Ria drank silently and slowly, enjoying the warm sensation flooding through her.
Oscar looked down at his phone while reading his book, and was surprised and joyful to see Waverly's check offering to get hot chocolate. He smiled, picked up his phone, and texted back, 'Hello Waverly! Sure! Hot chocolate sounds REALLY good right about now. . . .'
Waverly grinned. Great! Then she remembered something, and started typing out a second message. I think I actually saw a free hot chocolate sign in Grandmaâs Bakery the day we met. Itâs probably only for a week or two, and it might already be gone, but itâs worth checking, donât you think?
Maddie laughed at Brianna and took another swig of her coco. Her face suddenly twisted and her face became red. "OHH!!!! IT'S HOT!!!" She danced around the living room waving her hand in front of her mouth. "OW OW OWWWW!!!" she said, sticking out her tongue.
Eli smiled and chuckled. "It's called hot chocolate for a reason, Mads." He said, taking a small sip out of his.
Gabby nodded and smiled. "Yeah, it's supposed to be hot." She said, picking up her book and continuing to read it.
Oscar looked back down at his phone, read the message, and responded with, 'Sure! That place was fun the last time I went. What time are we going? Now?'
Ria grinned at Maddie and giggled. Then she took another sip of her coco and an unwelcome memory bubbled to the surface of her black watered mind. It was the first time she had ever drank hot chocolate. Her family had just been stranded in the woods in Tennessee, trying to get to their cabin. It was cold, frosty, and the complete opposite of the hot chocolate she was now drinking as she was dragged into the memory. . . .
She is sitting in the left back seat of their car, with her inquisitive eyes bobbing around.
"Where are we, Daddy? And why'd we stop moving?" Young Ria asked curiously. Her dad looks around from the drivers seat and smiles. He gives her that boyish grin he always does and answers,
"We're. . . . We are stranded in the middle of hot chocolate!" He tells her. Young Ria doesn't understand that you can't be stranded in hot chocolate, grins, and says,
"Really?! Can I eat it?!" Her sister perks up and looks outside.
"It does look like whip cream and marshmallows!" Brianna exclaims as she looks out into the cold, frosted world.
"Come on," their dad says, "I'll make some that you can actually eat and drink. If you ate and drank the stuff around us, we wouldn't be stranded in hot chocolate or be having this much fun," he tells them. He and their mother, Fiona, exchange playful and happy glances.
Ria was slammed back into reality and fell forward on her perch. She landed face forward on the hard wood floor and went rigid. Tears sprung in her eyes, but she quickly wiped them away as she attempted to get up.
Eli watched as she fell and grimaced gently. He set his cup down and stood up to help her. Maddie stopped waving her hand around her mouth. "Ria? Are you okay?" she asked, lowering her mug in concern.
Eli went over and picked up Ria's coco mug, that laid on its side from behind dropped.
Gabby rushed to get paper towels to clean up the spilled coco while Eli offered his hand to her. "You okay?" he asked.

( I think itâs pretty obvious why Flamefrost XD )
(Humor me?)
@Flamefrost (You really donât get why it would be super weird?)
@Wispiflower (apart from living with your crush, which I understand would be awkward, no. Is that what you meant?)

( I don't know actually..... But I did respond with Oscar at the top and I think he was asking a question about what time to meet for hot coco? )
Waverly grinned and texted back, Sure.
