Hello lovely nerd herders! This is 4 days late but life happens. Better late than never right?
Anyway, March is National Reading Month and so I thought it would be fun, as we go through the month, to share what we have read and maybe even a little summary/review (like on Goodreads when you finish a book). You don't have to participate but it's just a way to keep track of how many books you read in this 31 days!
So far, I've read The Canyons Edge by Dusti Bowling. It's a really easy read about a girl recovering from the trauma of losing her mother. However, she gets lost in a canyon and has to find her way out without food or water. Adventure novel but it's incredibly powerful and heartfelt. Also it's filled with different forms of poetry, (none of the rhyming kind) so it's just in general really fun to read :)
Happy reading!

I did finish another book but I didn't like it as much..
The Blackbird Girls by Anne Blankman
It focused on two girls who lost their fathers in the disaster at Chernobyl. I didn't like it because it branches off to tell another take that is supposed to help support the "blackbird girl" relationship but I feel like it was unnecessary. It also seemed to cut out info on the actual disaster, which I was kind of disappointed in.
Haha!! I did it XD!
I just finished As You Wish by Chelsea Sedoti.
This story follows a teenage boy who is about to turn 18. "If you could have anything you wished for, what would it be?" Well, this is exactly what 17-year-old, Eldon Wilkes, is trying to figure out AFTER his entire life blows up in his face. Trouble is, the wish only works on your 18th birthday and he has no idea what he wants to wish for! It's chaotic and a mess. A lot heavier than I expected! But it was good :).
I just finished Spellfire by Ed Greenwood.
It was published in the 1980s, which means that some elements of the story don’t hold up so well. However, it was trying to be good for its time.
The story follows Shandril Shessair in a Dungeons and Dragons themed world. Shandril is a young girl working at an inn who longs for adventure. She leaves to find it. In her journey through the dale, she gains the ability to master spellfire, a magic which can eliminate other arts and also burn. Suddenly, evil mages and dracoliches are seeking her out to destroy her due to her power! She needs to find allies to help her defend herself.
I just finished Amari and the Nightbrothers by B. B. Alston. It's about a girl of color (Amari) trying to live a relatively normal life after her brother's mysterious disappearance. However, she receives a package that brings hope and a possible way to find her brother and bring him home. It is filled with mystery, supernatural creatures, enhanced skills, a large betrayal, and plenty of excitement! I highly recommend it :)
This sounds cool! I may be able to do this...if I actually finish any of the books I have right now XD!
I like this idea a lot and will keep it in mind once I finish a book! Canyon’s Edge sounds like a very powerful book. As a side note, April is National Poetry month, so I was planning to do something with that.
