It had been a few moons since she had been captured by Jungle Herd, her golden wings having been healed during this time. There had been no sign of her father, or Desert Herd, since she had been captured either, and she was slowly beginning to lose hope of being rescued. Trotting over to a large leaf full of rain water, she lapped up the cool clear water. She sighed, watching as mares, weanlings, and yearlings wove vines and branches into the nests high above. The pegasi she had been staying with for the past couple of moons, Treeheart and Flakefire, had been extremely kind, and told her she could go and play while they wove things into the nest. Darkfeather, one of her best friends in Jungle Herd, approached her.
“You ok?” He asked with a tilt of his head. Skysun sighed, ruffling her feathers as she tried to decide what to tell the colt.
“I just…” She sighed, “I just want to go home…back to the desert.” She said, looking at her hooves, “But I don’t think that’ll happen.” She said with a grimace.
Darkfeather ruffled his dark purple wings, “I know how you feel…” He said, “But is there really anything we can do?” He asked, “None of our herds have even shown up since we were captured. I’m starting to wonder if they even care.”
Skysun looked at him in slight shock. Even if the herd hadn’t shown their faces since they were captured, she HAD to believe that they would be back for her. Her parents wouldn’t allow her to STAY captured…would they? No, they wouldn’t, she was sure of that, she had to get those terrible thoughts out of her head before they became what she believed.
“I still have to believe our herds will come for us…” She murmured quietly, “My father wouldn’t let me stay captured. I’m sure of it.” She nickered, snorting in slight annoyance.
Darkfeather huffed, “Believe what you want…” He murmured, “But as ruthless as Lightwing can be…I don’t think he’d send a rescue party after me…I’m not HIS foal…and my father is way to terrified of him to go up against him.” He said sourly.
“What about your Lead Mare?!” Skysun asked in shock, “Wouldn’t she tell Lightwing to send a rescue party?” She asked.
Darkfeather huffed in amusement, “Rosecloud doesn’t care for us…” He growled sourly, “If we’re not her foal, she barely notices us.” He said, glancing at Skysun, “I’m sure she hasn’t even noticed I was gone.”
Skysun, her mouth dropped open in shock, “But…how could…how could they be your Over-Stallion and Lead Mare?!” She asked.
“Because my herd is scared of them…” He said sadly, “They don’t care for anything but their power…” He nickered, looking at her. His eyes full of sorrow, “They don’t care about the herd, they just care about their power. And they’ll do anything to keep it…even kill steeds who could challenge Lightwing for that power.” He said, looking away, his ears pinned back in anger.
Skysun looked at her hooves, unsure about what to say to her friend. Opening her mouth to speak, she was quite unsure about how to proceed, but, gladly, they were interrupted before she had to.
“Hey guys!” Emeraldheart nickered, “Wanna play?” She asked with a tilt of her head.
Skysun was thankful for the distraction and nodded her head, “Sure! What do you want to play?” She asked.
Emeraldheart tilted her head curiously, “I wanna play chase!” She nickered happily, “You be Starwing the Great,” She said, pointing to Darkfeather with a wing, “You be Nightwing the Destroyer,” She said, pointing to her brother who had followed her, “I’ll be Petalcloud the Cruel, and you can be Morningcloud the Brave!” She nickered to Skysun. She nods, “Ok,” She said, “Let’s play!” She nickered, rearing playfully and chasing after Petalcloud. Darkfeather was running from Brownfeather who’s eyes were bright and playful. Her earlier worries were banished from her mind as she was playing with her friends, and she was momentarily unworried that her herd and family had forgotten about her. For the moment, she was just excited to be there, playing with her friends.
