The Day the Otters Swam to Shore.

    in FAN FICTON

(I wrote this when I was 10. Its not great, but I hope you enjoy!)

You all know sea otters, right? You know, the aquatic members of the weasel family? I'll just guess you know them. Anyway, there once was a family of sea otters. A mom, a dad, and two pups. The mom's name was Misty, the dad's name was Crag, and the two pups (a boy and a girl) was named Stone and Rain.

One day, Misty was floating on her back in the water with Stone and Rain on her stomach when she got an idea. She knew her pups were old enough, so she was going to teach them how to swim. So, suddenly and to Stone and Rain's surprise, she turned over and swam under the water.

While she was swimming, she looked up at her pups to see how they were doing. She saw that Rain was doing just fine, staying afloat with no problem, but, looking at Stone, she knew he needed help. He was splashing around in the water, panicking and swallowing mouthfuls of water.

So Misty swam up to Stone and helped him back on her stomach as she again floated on her back. All she did, though, was whisper in his hear and say "you have to believe!" She watched as Stone's expression changed from panicked, to confused, to confident. So she then turned over and swam under the water again leaving Stone in her wake.

When she looked up again, she first thought that she would have to help him again, but then she looked closer and listened. Stone suddenly stopped splashing, and Misty heard him say "I can do this. I BELIEVE!" Then, to Misty's happiness, Stone started swimming perfectly just like Rain. So, as Misty swam up to Stone and Rain to congratulate them, she said to herself, my job here is done.

Moral, Nothing is impossible if you just believe.

So, what do you think? How well did I do as a 5th grader when I wrote this?
