    Stolen Dreams | Chapter 16 |

    in FAN FICTON

*ooh, we're catching up to where I am in writing it right now...*

Bright lights swarmed Riverglade's vision, blinding her. It added on to the pain she already felt in her wings. She looked around, confused. This land was flat, and fairly dry, with few trees, and hills in the background with caves. This wasn't Canyon Herd's territory. Then she remembered.

The pain. Flying away. Being caught. Hawkwing. Sablestone's betrayal. Plains Herd. She stood up, shakily, and staggered backwards, tripped, and fell down. Everything went black again.

When she woke up, she was blinded again, her ears were ringing, and her wings still hurt.

"Oh, good. She's awake." Said a kind, but unfamiliar voice. Owner of the voice stepped in front of Riverglade. She was a chestnut snowflake appaloosa mare with a wide blaze, 4 white socks, and light yellow wings. Riverglade realized that it seemed a lot of Plains Herd steeds had either pinto or appaloosa markings, and remembered her mother, Brightcloud, explaining this to her.

" In Plains Herd, there isn't much they can camoflauge with, to hide from predators. So instead, their coats are typically spotted, or splotched, making it hard for predators to single one steed out." She explained.

Riverglade lurched unsteadily to her hooves, and fanned for wings. But they felt different. Lighter. She glanced at her wings out of the corner of her eye, and was repulsed at what she saw. She staggered backwards. What had they done to her wings? No. No, no, no, no, no, this can't be happening. She thought. The sky herders had taken out her flight feathers! They were missing! Gone!

Tears sprang to her eyes unwillingly as the realization hit her. She couldn't fly. Of course, she knew her flight feathers would grow back, but that takes moons. She didn't have moons. She had to get back to Canyon Herd as soon as possible.

The chestnut mare looked at her with sympathy. Riverglade saw that. "I don't want your pity" She spat at the mare.

She nickered. "Of course you don't," She said. She began walking towards Riverglade. Riverglade backed away, warily. "Who are you?" She asked, her eyes rolling, exposing the whites.

The mare softened. "I'm sorry. You don't even know who I am, and here I go, walking up to you. Especially after the ordeal you've been through. I'm Gingerroot, the Plains Herd medicine mare. Now, if I may ask, what's your name?"

"I'm Riverglade. First and only foal of Stormwing and Brightcloud, overstallion and lead mare of Canyon Herd." Riverglade said proudly. "Who are they?" She then asked, jerking her head towards the two stallions and the skyherder standing multiple winglengths apart from each other, guarding her.

    "They're your guards," Gingerroot said.

*sorry that ended so abruptly, I wrote this chapter really long in my notebook where I write this, and had to split the chapter in half*

I like this a lot! Riverglade is in trouble! When I do names like that, I usually do one instead of double, like I would say Gingeroot not Gingerroot.

I like Gingerroot! (I wish you had picked a different name though... it makes it hard to read when there is a double R or other letter in the middle.)

Also, "Riverglade lurched unsteadily to her hooves, and fanned for wings." Don't you mean "fanned her wings"?

And yeah, Gingerroot is kind of hard to read, but I got the idea for her character from a horse game I play called Howrse.com, and one of the horses that I own on it is a chestnut snowflake appaloosa named Gingerroot. (I name most of my Howrse.com horses with TGH nameing system)
