Probably going to change the name but here is my story about Riversun and her friend Quicksilver! It's directly after the death of Nightwing and started out as a short story about how there is still Starfire in my Defenders of Anok Roleplay (Sorry @Thunderheart I know you wanted to make one, and you still can, but I couldn't resist lol!) AnYWaYS hope you enjoy it!
Chapter 1
Riversun, a black and white filly with black-tipped violet feathers, stared wide-eyed at her large black sire high in the air. He was locked in heated combat against Star, Sun Herd’s new immortal healer. Nightwing himself had been living for thousands of years, only waking once the new black foal had received his Starfire. It was destroyer versus healer in an epic ultimatum. Who would survive to potentially rule all of Anok?
Both shining black stallions gnashed their teeth and struck violently. Riversun wanted to turn away, but couldn’t. She couldn’t give up hope. Star shot golden stream after golden stream of the blinding Starfire. It only made her father stronger. He could still win this!
Then, a gold shield sprang up, encasing the two of them. ‘Star is dead!’ Riversun thought gleefully. She watched triumphantly as Nightwing blasted wave after wave of the deadly silver. Her hooves glowed just watching.
Strangely though, Star absorbed the barrage. How? Her father seemed to be wavering. When it seemed that he had none left, his opponent shoved it back. All crushing streams of the deadly silver. It disintegrated Nightwing. Riversun cried out in pain and fear! Her father!
The glowing orb lowered, flickered, and disappeared. It left the young stallion triumphant with a pile of ashes and a single black feather. Star limped over to his chesnut friend, but Riversun was too grieved to care. She ran over to the remains of her sire, crying her heart out. She sniffed feverishly at the feather and pulled it close. A silver colt crept up to her. He was worried for his friend. He had been close with Starfrost and Riversun since birth, and it hurt him to see her like this.
“Are you okay, Riv?” He asked tentatively. “Quicksilver?” She sniffed.
“Yeah,” he replied, putting a wing over her shivering body.
"He’s…he’s gone!”
“I know,” he whispered. “I know.”
As Riversun cried into his shoulder, Quicksilver watched as the wind blew the ashes. Unfortunately, it was blowing toward him and the filly. He cringed as the black bits trickled through his fur, sending small charges that tickled. He sneezed. Riversun coughed.
“What are we going to do?” She asked. Without her father or mother, there was no one to look after her. Quicksilver’s parents had been killed in the battles, so he was also alone.
The colt’s body racked with a sudden fever, and the feeling of fire flowed through his stomach. Riversun looked up in amazement, momentarily forgetting their situation. “Sil?” She whinnied. His hooves glowed, a mix of silver and gold. The filly’s teeth sparked.
Both jumped back away from each other, their eyes wide and bright. “What…is this?” Quicksilver choked, feeling the silver sparks spit between his teeth. The ground withered and died beneath them. “Starfire,” Riversun whispered, her final tears drying on her face.
“But how?”
“I have no idea, you need the hundred-year-star or…the ashes! My father’s ashes!” Despite their predicament, both foals couldn’t help but make a face. “That’s disgusting,” Quicksilver shook his mane.
“I wonder how it transferred through your hide?” Riversun mused.
“To be completely honest, I don’t want to think about it!” A lot of things were uncertain, yet they couldn’t help but laugh. It was the nature of foals. They couldn’t think about things too seriously. Riversun stretched her wings. “Maybe…we should just stay here. I have this feeling. At any rate, no one will think to look for us there.”
“If anyone thinks to look for us at all,” the colt pouted. Riversun comforted her friend. “Would a…quick flight help you feel better?” She asked mischievously.
He glanced sideways at her before jumping into the air and flapping his stormy blue wings. “Catch me if you can!” He taunted.
Riversun smirked and shot after him, weaving between the tree branches and rocketing into the clear blue sky.
Quicksilver froze mid-flight, causing Riversun to run into him. “Are you okay?” She cried. He snorted hard and spread his wings into the air, trumpeting the over-stallions call. He shook his mane and dove toward the tree tops leaving behind silver sparks. “It’s…too…much!” He shrieked. His coat was electric and his eyes were rolled back into his head.
Riversun landed quickly and tried to coax her friend to land as well. “Come down!” She pleaded fervently. The silver colt crashed through the foliage and landed in a heap of feathers. “Quicksilver…wh-what’s happening?”
His only reply was heavy breathing. He had barely heard her, lost in a swirl of the mysterious power. His vision was clouded with images of all the black foals that had survived to their 1st birthday. The longest memories were of Star and Nightwing, the silver and the gold.
The power weighed heavy as the smoke in his head cleared. “R-River?”
Riversun blinked slowly, putting a black-tipped wing over his back.
“I have it,” Quicksilver shook his head incredulously. “I have Starfire!”
