The black stallion closed his eyes and let the wind ruffle his mane. He wanted peace and quite, and now he finally had it. He opened his eyes and looked at the horizon expanding in front of him. He saw his herd resting or grazing. The foals were off playing a game of tag. There nickers could be heard from the cliff were Moon was standing. He sighed. His peace and quiet was over. He turned around and galloped through the forest. While other creature that lived in the forest dodged them, Moon looked for fallen logs or tree trunks to leap over. His hooves moved into a slow canter, then a walk. He looked up at the sky. There were pegasi up there, laughing and playing. A stallion, probably the leader, was slowly gliding. Next to him was a beautiful mare with a hide as black as Moon's. The mare caught him looking at her and Stared right back. He sighed. Then he galloped away from the herd of flying horses, back to his unicorn and horse herd. He was proud of his 60 mares, 200 foals, and 900 stallions that made his herd. His sister Twilight came to him followed by his filly River and his mare Bella. He and Bella touched foreheads. His sister nodded to him with a smile. A fresh shot of pain shot through the pregnant unicorn mare as her foal kicked. She screamed and started sobbing. Moon realized she was foaling. Twilight's belly went back to her normal size when the foal, a filly, lied down on the sand that was the herd's home. But the look of the filly surprised everyone, especially Moon. Twilight had given birth to a pegasus!

Midnight knew she saw that pegasus on the ground before. She knew he was the leader of a herd of horses and unicorns, but everything else about that stallion was undeniable. She brought it up with her stallion later that evening just as he was getting rid of his wings. Nightmare wasn't really a pegasus, but he was a unicorn, so he was able to make wings using his magic to go on flights with his herd. His only thought about the strange pegasus was it was their long lost colt. Midnight realized with a start that WAS her colt! Midnight had two foals, a unicorn and the pegasus she saw on the ground. But they were taken by a foreign herd. She was getting ready to go on a flight to find him and his older sister Twilight. She was still pondering names for her unnamed colt when Sophie came in. Sophie was a human who could talk to the pegasi and Nightmare. She called to the herd. "Guys! Time to come in! It's supposed to rain tonight, so we're taking you to the barn." Midnight loved the barn, but she needed to find her foals. She told that to Sophie. "Midnight, it's great if you saw him, but it has to wait till tomorrow. And I have a surprise for you and Nightmare. Y'all are going to breed tonight!" Midnight froze. They were going to breed?!
