Amala pranced and flicked her long chocolate brown tail. There were beads braided into it, and whenever there were, it meant she was going somewhere. Maybe on a hunting mission, or something like that.
“Hey, Amala,” Desi trotted over, with his Rider, Jordan, perched on his back.
“Hey, Desi! Is Jordan’s leg better?” Amala nickered, trotting up to him and quickly exchanged breath.
Fane, who was sitting on Amala’s back going through his bag, looked up.
“Yep. It doesn’t seem to hurt anymore. She stopped limping,” Desi assured Amala, a cheerful and grateful tone in his voice.
Amala smiled and bobbed her head, and looked over past Desi and at Jordan. She was smiling, and watching Fane.
Desi snorted and shared and eye roll with Amala. Amala laughed and let out a loud neigh, to startle her Rider.
“Woah! Amala!” He patted her neck, and smiled nervously over at Jordan. “You doing better?” He waited for her nod, and continued. “That’s good. And just in time, too. It would be bad to be hurt during a Clan Gathering,” he said, a hint of relief in his voice.
Jordan laughed, “Yes,” she said in agreement.
As more Fliers flew or galloped over to them, Desi and Amala chattered about what the Clan Gathering would be like. This was going to be there first one as Fliers, and they were quivering and prancing with excitement.
All the other older Fliers had explained some of it, that there would be an Auction, and a show called... well, Amala forgot the name.
“Hey, Fliers!” Paloma sneered, trotting up to Amala and Desi.
“Paloma,” Amala greeted calmly, with a slight flutter of her feathers.
Paloma snorted and tossed her head as Casey tugged at her reins. He was holding them one handed, and with the other he was running his hand through his hair.
They were interrupted as a group of young Sandwen children skipped and stumbled over to them. One reached up and touch Amala’s muzzle, before running his hand down her neck, tracing the carvings in her armor.
Amala looked down at him calmly, and let out a kind nicker.
“Ay,” Casey said sternly, as a girl touch Paloma’s wing.
“Oh, come on, Casey, they’re just kids,” Jordan said, grinning as a kid touched Desi’s cheek.
Desi looked down at the child in surprise, his eyes warm.
Casey ignored the children petting Paloma, a look of pure annoyance on his face.
Fane grinned as a young little girl looked up at Fane in admiration. “You wanna hop on?” Fane asked her. They all heard a gasp of honor from the young girl’s mother, who was loading a wagon.
“YES! Yes, yes, yes!” The girl squeaked, and took Fane’s outstretched hand, scrambling up on Amala back.
Amala shifted in approval. The girl’s weight didn’t affect Amala’s light trot at all.
Jordan helped a young Sandwen boy up on Desi’s back. The green-eyed child was practically glowing with happiness.
“Beat it,” Casey spat as a pair of twins looked up at him hopefully. The happiness from their faces quickly vanished, and in a heartbeat, they were already running back to their family.
Amala shifted angrily. “Why is Casey so rude!?” She neighed.
Paloma lifted her chin, unrattled. “He’s not rude. He’s just... proud.”
“Yeah, right,” Amala snorted, and moved aside so Paloma could pass. Paloma would be leading the flight to the 5th Clan, to Amala’s annoyance.
The cheerful girl was still perched on Amala’s back, with Fane’s arm around her. He used his other hand to guide Amala as more Fliers rushed past them.
