Edit; Guys you don’t have to agree with me! Im just saying don’t limit yourself or anybody else!
So a thing people worry about a lot when drawing fanart and designing fan characters for TGH is if the colors are realistic for horses. This is my opinion on this all.
I really have never seen the point in keeping TGH or Warriors designs realistic. If you don’t need to see flying horses everywhere to enjoy reading TGH then you shouldn’t need to see flying horses with specific horse breeds and colorations to enjoy fanart. Same with warriors, black and yellow cats with red eyes may not be realistic, but cats also don’t fight for territory and have colonies with up to 70 cats.
Same goes for anatomy as for coloration. I actually enjoy changing horse anatomy for Pegasi because it distances them from their so called “cousins”.
I know this is a bit different from my regular posts but I thought this might encourage people who are scared to draw creatively. Don’t stop yourself from making a black, blue, and brown Pegasi with bright pink wings, it will look AWESOME!!!!

OOOOO I CAN NAME HER, I CAN NAME HER!!! SHE MY GIRL MAGICPETAL XDDDD
I can agree with that, though sometimes I want you know a purple paint with golden colored wings.... just my thought process.
I love breaking boundaries every now and then by adding crazy colors that throw realism out the window.
But, my personal preference is this- realism for coat and mane/tail, then go crazy on the wings. I feel like the wings-the tools Pegasi use for flying as high as the clouds-should be every color of the rainbow and more! You can't have a pegasus without wings--the wings are what makes a pegasus special. So, yeah! Go all out with the wings. But, when it comes to the body, I tend to tone it down just a little XDD
To me, there is such a thing as 'too bright' or 'too much color' but at the same time, I love expressing myself and matching a certain wing color to each of my OC's
(Ex: Pegasus name is Stoneglade- I envision him to have a strong, tall body with dark gray coat and emerald green wings)
A lot of you who know me and have been on the MB for a while, know that I can extend the boundaries of colorful wings by just a little. One of my OC's has bright aqua wings speckled(little polka dots) in dark yellow (bonus points if any old members can name her ;) But, her coat was just a simple red roan.
So, I love making colorful feathers, like a bird's wings, but I also think that it looks better to stay a little more on realistic side with the body so the character isn't totally in your face with all the colors.
XDDD that's my opinion thooo
Heheh I am sort with Crys on this one though! I mean, I have always wanted to make a pegasus with purple wings tipped in yellow, and then have them you know be a blue paint, )Of course the lesser amount of one color would be blue, while the rest would be like black or something!) but it would be interesting!! just to look at!
Lol XDDDDD
I guess same with anatomy, too, because I REALLY don’t want a human with ten legs.... eww.....
Yeach, I’m kind of with Dragon..... I like realism :/ But I also think that color is the most important part of an OC, and, let’s say, you’re drawing a dragon, right? A dragon with yellow skin and pink polka dots is not going to look very pleasing to the eye. While I bet a very talented artist could make it look pleasing to the eye, the color combination would absolutely kill it for me. :/
I use a book called Dragon Art and it goes in depth with color. In fact, it uses the exact same reference as I have put above these two sentences.
I do want to encourage people to draw, but idk. I like my realistic colors :/
Man, I have the compleate opposite mindset when it comes to creating OCs
